HomeMy WebLinkAbout1948-01-19345 JANUARY 19,1948-continued PETITION NEW ENGLANDTELEPHONE& TELEGRAPH COMPANY: A petition for permission to locate a pole on Massachusetts Avenue, 196 feet northwest of Railroad Ave. was received and the board voted unanimously to hold a public hearing on February 2, 1948 in this office at 7:30 P.M. Abutters to'ha notified. TOWN. TREASUR~'S REPORT: A report was received from James Maker, town treausrer showing the amount of cashon hand on December 31, 1947. Balance on hand December 31, 1947 was $67,335.22. STEVENS HALL Permission was granted to the North Andover A.A. for ~se of Stevens Hall · on March 5, 1948 to run a dance. Mr. Hayes has hall available for that date. DAMAGE CLAIM: The board voted to pay the damage claim sf Matthew Coyne of Millbury,Mass. .which amounts to $12.00. This is for damage to his car when it was hit by the North Andover Ambulance. A release will be obtained before check is mailed. The claim of Mrs. Ellen Baldwim for$99.82 whichincludes $11.00 for doctor's bill'and $88.82 for wages lost because of injuries she received when she fell on the sidewalk in front of the police station on December 21, 1947. The~ board voted to refer this matter to Mr. Mahoney for an opinion before action is.taken on 'the ma~%er of paying the bill. · BUS,SERVICE: Mrl Thomson brought up the matter of service on the Railroad Ave~ and ,High Bus route and explained that he hadreceived many complaints and that he had discussed this matter with Mr. Chase of the Eastern Mass. Railway Company but that apparently the situation had not been corrected. Mr. Thomson suggested' that this hoard write a letter to Hr. Chaseand that if no action is taken, theylshould take the matter up with the higher officials. The board agreed ~,,that this was the correct'procedure. BIDS FOR TOWN REPORTS: The Board received two bids for printing the town reports~ one from the Naiman Press of 17 Marblehead.St. North Andover which quoted $8.00 per page ~for 1300 reports similar to the 1947 reports~ the other ~rom the Bee Publishing Company which quoted a price of $6.49 per page for 1500 reports. The board ~voted unanimously ~o award the bid to The BeePublishing Company, and agreed that' 1400 copies would be sufficient. Mr. ~ohn McAuliffe was present when the 'bids were opened and he assured the board thet~he would have them ready for March 1,.'1948. BANKRUPT NOTICE: Notice received from W.H. Smart, referee in Bankruptcy that Albert, J. Fountain of'~NorthAndover has been dulyadJudged a bankrup~ on a petition filed by him on~Decemhar 8,1947. T~easurer and tax collector will be notified. ADVISORY BOARD MEETING: The Selectmen have been invited to'sit in with the Advisory Board at the ~conclusion of the Special town meeting which is to be held on this day in the Court Room at ~:00 P~M. Budgets and appropriationswill be discussed. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS: Notibe~eceiyed that the amounts shown are the tentative 1948 Chapter 90 ~allotmentsfor North Andover and an attested copy off.the town vote on Chapter '90 ,articles is to be sent to the office of the commissioner. INSURANCE-APPRAISALS: Notice received from C. Clark Macomhar of Boston, that a fire insurance appraisal' of ~11 town buildings was made in 1935 hy the J, W. Duff & S~ns, I~c. and informing this board that they shall be glad to discuss this~matter of a 'review service .' A valid reEaluation is strongly recommended in view of the terrific rise in building since 1934. No action was taken. .SELECTMEN'S ASSOCIATION: Motions and resolutions passed at the meeting of the Mass.
