Mr. 0arty came before the beard and the ACT passed on January 21, 1948 by Governor
Bradford was discussed. Mr. Mahoney was present ande~plained this act to Mr.
Oarty. Mr. Mahoney explained that he would have to have a specific figure to be
asedwhen he asked for approval from the majority of the Board of Selectmen and
the Advisory Board. Mr. Carty said he would not be able to give a figure which
would be eoreect, as he would not know until afte~ the work was completed.
There was e general discussion in regard ~o this matter and the board finally
referred the matter to Mr. Mahoney who stated that he would have something definite
£n-wrfting for Mr. Carry and the board members within the next few days.
During the month of December 1947, the Highway Department spent $10,668.71'for
snow removalexpanses. The board then voted to allow Mr. Carry to expend the sum
of:~$~000 for the remainder ~f the month of January beginning January26 through
the ,31st. This must be approved by a majority of the Advisory Board and the
m~J0rity of the Selectmen and forms were made out and approval given by telephom
frd~'the majority of the Advisory Board for the sum of $5,000. '
POSTING TOWN WARRANTS:
Mr. ~Mahoney called to say.that the town warrants must he posted by a constable
and'not by the Chief of Police. The by-law clearly states.that the warrants
shall-be posted .by any one o£ the constables and unless it is impossible to
~.locate one, at which time any desirable person would be permitted ~o post them
according to the law: However, Mr. Mahoney suggested that the Chief be informe~:

HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT CLAIMS FOR DAMAGES:
DrY' Charles Lee reported that. his car was scraped by the
or:~n on. January 25 and the cost of the repairs amounts to $22.80. He had this

POLICE DEPARTMENT-CIVIL SERVICE APPROVAL:
Approval was received from Civil So,ice on the appointment of Norman M. Fleming
. of~90 Saunders Street as police officer. His duties are to begin on January 29,
1948 9nd his salary will be $48.90 weekly with a $1.00 increase given far five
years or until he reaches ~he maximum.
