APRIL 26, 19~8- continued:
Mr. Sullivan orated that they start their games on April 29 and they may not
collect anything. They are not allowed to charge at the gate.
Mr. Rivet stated that they take up acollectiun, which is Just the same as char~i~g.
Carl Thomas spoke before the board and stated that it wassu~,p~ising the amount
of money collected. He said that the balls cost $2..50 each and when the Legion
sponsor their baseball team they lose money. He stated that. they spent $800
last year and lost money. He feels as do other members of theLegion that
this'sport should be kept up for the health of the boys. He also felt that
Mr. Rivet was entitled to some money as gr0undkeeper but he.couldn't figure out
where it 'should come from. -
Mr. 'Coffin stated that he would like to state that he agrees with Mr. Thomas and
he would like to see the town give more to .cultural and athletic matters. He
suggested taking this underadvisement and in.the meantime find out if it is
permissible to charge a fee. It was then suggested tha~ charging would not help
'until a fence is erected around the. field as people can come in. from all angles.
Mr. Coffin further suggested that we submit this information to the Recreational
Councilaafld see if theyhave anything ~o 'suggest.
GLENW00D STREET:
Gaetano Midolo of 29 Glenwood Street camebefore the board and asked for work to
be :done ~on ~he street. He wants Mr. Carty to 'take care of this matter of;filling
in the holes. Mr. Car~y has.been down there and suggested~that they put'a ~
surface drain in down..there and then ask £or the street .'to.be accepted. He. does
not seem tounderstand this and i~ was,voted to.send, him a 'copy of the~rules
andregulations for accep6ing streets..
COMPLAINT:
A compIaint Was received about a car parkedon'the middle of the ~'~
'Railroad Ane and Main Street. The board voted to refer this to Chief McKeeand
ask that he make a report to the board at a later date.

COMPLAINT REGARDING HOUSE PURCHASED FROM SAMBATAR0:

With~reference ~o a house purchased by..his son, Dino. DeRosa of 95
whi6h'.he claims was purchased from Salvatore Sambataro. Mr, DeRosa stated that
porch islonlyfive feet~away from the-~ther property line on .one side and
othe=~side there is a distanceof~29feet. The lot has a 90 foot fron~ag.

LAWRENCE.iDUMP ON'q~LgSDEN STREET:
Al~tter was received from Mr. Joseph E. Carney, Alderman and Director of LawrenceJ
with~eference :o complaints about the dump situation as it'affects residents in
Nor{hAndover. Mr.' Carney stated that for the past three years he has been trying~
to,locate mew dumping areas in and around Lawrence but with no success.- The Ietter
states..that theonly satisfactory solution is to have an incinerator erected~.~ This
would~be ver~ costly:but he stated~that plans are .under way and he sincerely trust~
~that~..theSelectmen will bear with'them until the incinerator isbuilt.
Mr. 'Carney also mentioned that he has had considerable complaints from a section in
South'Lawrenceabout the nuisance created from the dumping on Perry Street. He
'mentioned that North'Parish Road still seems to be a~mecca for private trucks, to
du~P..~'He.stated that they would greatly appreciate our cooperation in stopping
North Andover trucks from dumping there also. Mr. Coffin~Jelt thatit was a matter
for Eawrence Police to handle regarding dumping at theNorth Parish Road. dump.
EAWRENCEGAS &ELECTRIC COMPAA~:
A request for permission to excavate to install gas-services on the following
stre%ts was granted by vote of the board: Katherine Midgley, 22 Maple Ave.
16 feet on street, William Burns, 32 Beverly Street, 27 feet on street, and James
Casey, Middlesex Street, corner of Mifflin Ave. 29 feet on street.
SHADE ON STREET LIGHT-~&~PLE AVE. AND STONINGTON STREET:
A letter was received from the Lawrence Gas & Electric Company relative to the
shade which:has been adjusted to prevent the light from shining in the windows
of Mr.'Sali~bury's home. The company will investigate this matter and advise this
board as to what can be done :o satisfy both parties.
