Abutters to be notifled~ Notice received that the shade which was placed onthe street lijht at the corner of Msp!e Avenue and Stonington Streot had been settled to the satisfaction of Mr. Arnold Salisbury and Mrs. McGuire. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC UTILITIES: Notice received that a public hearing will be held upon the petition of the W. H. Clifford, Agent for all railroads in Massachusetts to increase intrastate basic fares in coaches and sleeping or parlor cars and increased excess baggage, on May 27, 1948 at !0:00 A.M. a~ !66 State House, Boston. BOARD OF PUBLIC WOR~S: Communication from this board informing the selectmen that they had received a bill for $50.00 for rental of the Bathing beach for the year 1947 in accordance with the lease. They asked to be advised if end when the Bathing Beach was purchased by the town under Article 15 of the 1947 Annual Town meeting when $500 was raised and appropriated for this purpose. The chairman discussed this matter and s~ated that the sale had no~ been completed and that the bill for rental of beach was due and · payable to F. B. Kittredge~ 30 Academy Road. MEETING ADJOURNED: The regular weekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held a~ 7:00 P.M. with al/ members present. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved. NEARZ~G-LA~RENCE GAS & ELECTRIC COMPANY: A hearing was held at 7:15 P.M. on the petition of the above company for permission to locate one pole on the'southerly side of Sale~ Turnpike St. approximately 93 feet easterly from Peters Street. (1 existing pole location zo be abandoned.) The board voted unanimously ~o grant this request. A petition for permissionto excavame to install gas-service for Francis Connor, Hamilton'Road, 11 ffet on mtreet was granted upon unanimous vote of the board. NEW ENGLAND TELEPHONE AND TELEGRAPH COMPANY: LAWRENCE GAS & ELECTRIC ~0: Hearing held at 7:15 P.~.~. upon the petition of this company to erect 25 poles on Foster Street ~outhea~ter!y from W~n~er Street. 6~ poles and southwesterly from Win~er Street, 19 poles. Board voted unanimously to ~ran% this petition. REQUEST FOR TREE R~quest for removal of a ~ree on Main Stree~ in front of the property of Mrs. David Wallworkwas received and set for'a hearing on June 7, 1948 after referral to the tree warden. Request for removal of s ~ree at 291 Middlesex Stree~ by Joseph Flanagan in front · of his property was also se~ for a hearing on June 7, 1948 at 7:30 P.M. after being referred to the nree warden, John J. Connors. SNOWREMOVAL: Mr. Carty, Highway Surveyor came before the board and stated that he has no money for fences etc., and he wants to have an article put in the next special town meeting that is held although he does not wan~ to call a special town meeting. This will be kept on record until another special ~own meeting is to be held. COUNTY CO~ISS!0.~: Letter received from the County Commissioners and a copyof a report made by County Engineer Clinton C. Barker relative to the reques~ of this board that something be done about the North Parish Road which is a county way. M~. Barker reported that this road was in a deplorable condition and should be cleaned up and made passable. Also, that the bridge, which is in Lawrence is narrow and should be widened and that the wou~herly approach, known as Green Stree~ is narrow and should be widened to improve conditions on this part of the road. A copy of this report was also senm to Lawrence to Mayor Meehan. The board discussed this matter and Mr. Thomson stated that the burden of k~eping this road in condition lies on Lawrence and there is not mu~h the Se%ectmen can do but await farther action from Lawrence as a result of this report. (Filed under County Commissioners) NORTH ANDOVER IMPROVEMENT SOCIETY: A letter wes received from this Society relative to unauthorized dumping in various places throughout the town. The Society is interested in an endeavor ~o build up a greater sense of civic Rrlde and this would tend to diminish the amount of unauthorized dumping of refuse. The board voted unanimously to endorse any campaign this Society may have and to help in any way possible. Letter will be acknowledged.
