TELEVISION STATION: Letter received from the Lowell Sun asking for assurance from the Selectmen as the governing board of North Andover, that this town would avail itself of the facilities offered to bring to the people of North Andover, programs of civic and general interest. Thebosrd voted to send a letter of assurance =o the Lowell Sun. STATION WLAW: A letter was received From the WLAW Station asking For assurance of the Selectmen that the facilities of this s~ation would be utilized by the town.to meet need in North Andover in the public interes~ and general welfare of the'community. The board agreed to send a letter of assurance. CITY.0F LAWRENCE-ALDEPJ~N DONOHUE: Aletter was received from Alderman Donohue relative to the North Andover Bathing Beach which recently restricted the beach to North Andover residents only. Mr.. Donohue stated that North Andover children have al~ays been allowed at the Lawrence poets:and it seemed to him that it would be no added burden on the tacpayers of this ~own if Lawrence children were allowed to use the beach. The board voted to send a letter to Alderman Donohue explaining that this was originally the property of the American Legion localPost 219, and was specifically for~the use of North Andover residents. W~th-the passage of time, the kbeach has become popular and more people from Lawrence were using it thatthe local~eop!e. A letter will be sent a~ once to Lawrence. LAWRENCE GAS & ELECTRIC COMPANY: Permission to excavate to install gas-service for John Kultk, LindenAve. for distance of'13 feet on the street was approved by unanimousvote of the board. STATE HOUSING BOARD~ A letter zeceived advising the Board that Roland B. Hammond, Sr. of 9 Bradstreet Road has been appointed as the fiftha member of the North Andover Housing Au~hority~ for the.term ending July 27, 1951. :BOSTON & MAINE RAILROAD: Letter received advising the board that the matter of erecting a fence or barrier along the .right of way of the B & M Railroad has been referred to Division Engineer Mr. H.'F~ Tupper, Dover, N.H. for his investigation and we will be advised later ":as~t6~his~ecision~ This fence was requested along Ashland Street ' ~"~AINS 1SERVICE: Letter received from C. F. Palmer, Passenger Traffic Manager relative to train service on Sundays. The letter states that a stop on Train 1016 will be restored effective August 1. This train is due in North Andover at 11:08 A.M. and will stop on signalonly. This is an experimental..basis 'and after a reasonable time, if the stop is not patronized, we may be at liberty, to omit the stop. This was agreeable to the ~board. SPEEDLNGATRAILROADAVE: Mr. JOeffin called attention to the board that wears still waiting for a report from the Police Chief on the conditions at Railroad Ave. to Saunders Street. EASTERN MASS. RAILWAY~FARERATES: The board received a schedule of the fare.rates~in North Andover and Mr. Thomson ,said~this would require some s~udy on the part of. the~board. Ne said that there has been some dissatisfaction especially a~. the Center and it was. suggested that ~.hea~ing would be held on August 16, at ~.00 P.M. in the Selectmen's Office and ~natmr. Chase or a responsible representative would be asked to be present at thismeeting. The board agreed that this was a good idea and a letter will be 'sent ~o~the Eastern Mass. Co. PRECINCT OFFICERS: The~board voted u~animous!y to appoint the present precinct officers asthere are · vacancies and no recommendations had been received from the two chairmen of~the Democratic and Republican parties in the town. A copy of these officers is filed under Precinct Officers inthe Selectmen's file.~ POLICE DEPARTMENT: · r~ Coffin informed the board that Officer Eleming had stopped him and asked about having full time work weekly and full time pay. He said that because of the hours worked he does not get sufficient pay. Mrl Thomson informed Mr. Coffin that some time ago a rule was made that new o~ would work for a number of years before they reach the maximum pay of the other officers. The rule was put into effect because it was not the feeling of the board of selectmen or the regular officers who have served a long time that a new man (inexperiencedP should start in for the same pay and they are given an increase of $1.00 per year until reach Mr. Coffin a that thi was but he felt that he should work the same of as the others
