SEPTEMBER 22,1948=
LAWRENCE GAS &ELECTRIC CO:
A request for permission to install gas-service for Arthur A. Thomson, Greene Street
near Bradstree~ Road, 33 feet on street was granted by unanimous vote cf the board.
RESI~ATION-RECREATIONALCOUNCIL
A letter of resignation from the Rscreamional Council was received from Joseph
Lumenello and was accepted with regrem by the board. A letter of thanks will
be sent to Mr. Lumenello, for the fine service he gave while serving on the Council.
LAWRENCE GAS&ELECTRIC C0~IPANY:
A letter received from the above company with respec~ ~o a survey made by them
on Rsilroad and suggesting that four 2500 lumen lights be installed for a distance
of 1600 feet, the cosm of which would be $112.00 per year. The board voted to
hold this matter over for one week.
The letter further referred to a pole on Wood Lane which interferes with a drive-
way and they will remove the pole. A street light was requested in this section
and the company recommends one on Wood Ave. or on Sutton Street and they feel
that a 2500 lumen light in this section would give sufficient illumination ~o
Wood Avenue, which is a prorate way. This was also held over until next week.
DEPARTMENT OFPUBLIC WORKS:
Mr. Thomson stated that a letter had beeh received from Charles Fritz with reference
to an earlier ~etter sent to 100 Nashua.Stree~fand which was referred to him. He
did not answer the pacific questions asked by this board and he later' talked
· to Mr. Thomson by telephone and requested a plan showing the proposed aboveground
drainage. Thiswas taken care of by Ralph Brasseur and the plan sent to Mr. Fritz
and %here is nothing more to do but wait for his .reply.
APPLICATIONS F0~ BOARD OF HEALTH:
Application for the vacsncy in this Boardwere received from Herbert S. S
and-Peter Ritchie and were placed on file.
.STEVENS HALE:
The NorthAndover Women's Club requested permission to use Steven~ Hall in
~afternoon, October 27, 1948 for their annual .bridge party for funds for the
· scholarship fund. The board granted permission unanimously
The Eclectic Club requested permiAsion to use the hall on December 2, 1948.for
the annual football banquet and permission was~granted. Mr. Hayes has both of
.-~hese'dates.available.
STREET LIGHT REQUEST:
A request:for a street light at 357 Dale'Street was received 'f~om Edward Welch
and:the board voted to check-with the Law. G & E Co. to zee what the cost would
be for a light in this section.
SCRAP ~RIVE' MEMBERS:
The American Legion appointed the following mo serve as a committee for their
~..scrap·drive as requested recently byActing Governor, Arthur W. Coolidge:

GIRL SCOUTS- SELECT~IEN'S MEETING:
Mrs.~Gira~Aldi asked for permission to have the girl scou~s of her troup ~o
attend~a selectmen's meeting.as they had. voted on the town meeting form cf
governmen~ and shethought it would be of some help to them after attending
a meeting. The Selectmen agreed unanimously to have them come in but suggested
tha~ they wait until there is to.be a meeting of some importance. Mrs. Girabaldi
agreed that this was s very good idea.
POLICE DEPARTMENT:
The Chief of Police sent a copy of an order effective in,his depar~men~ on
September 2l, 194~ which statesthat an· hour will be devoted ~o each precinct
at a time. The members will thus give protection in all parts of the town,
equally. The board agreed that this was a very good plan.
The Chief also presented schedules of police'protection to be give at the schools
when children are going into school and the officers have been instructed to
be available at certain schools am aertain times each day. This is in conjunction
with patrol leaders and has been worked cum by the school committee, superintendent
and the chief of police.
OIL EROGRESS DAY:
~A letter askin~ that a chairman and committee be appointed to observe this day
on October 14, I948 was received and the board voted to appoint James Dooley
to serve ss Chairman.
