LA?~RENCE GAS & ELECTRIC COMPANY: A letter requesting permission to excavate to install gas-services for HorAQE Howard at 61 Brightwood Ave. 36 feet on s~reet and James Philbin, 417 Main. St., 3~ feet on street was granted permission by~manimous vote of the board. LETTER informing this board that the above company will investigate the location for a street light as requested by Edward Welch, to be located a~ 357 Dale Street. They will notify this board as soon as their investigation is completed. POLICE DEPARTMENT: · Oopy of a letter which Chief ~cKee sen% ~o Mr. Charles'Bailey at the ~egistry for help from his office in making.a survey of the state highways in the'town prior to a request for a public hearing by the Board of Selectmen, with respect to signs and rates of speed to be allowed at various places on the .highways. They .had both been appointed for one day only. SCRAP DRIVT.- A~ERIOANLEGION: The American Legion requested that the Board of Selectmen endorse. October 24, A1948 as Scrap and Paper Drive Day. Mr. Coffin mad$ a motion to the effect that the Board of Selectmen endorse October 24, 1948 as Scrap and Paper Drive Day hy the. American Legion and request .that all residents give it their support. Motion.was seconded and vote was unanimous. REMOVAL OF. TREE ~EQUEST: . William A. Flynn of 282 Railroad Ave. requested the ~em~val of a large ~tree~in front of his property which interferes With his sewe~ pipes andthe roots of thatree are growing into'the pipes. Filed under Selectmen's Association matters. _ ~TOBER' 18, 19~, The regular weekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held a{ 7:00 P.~. with ,1~ members present. Wee~Zy bills and payrolls were approved. DOG COMPIAINT: Charles Wilco~ came before the board to ?~Plain about a large dog which has been annoying him for the )asr year. He. stated that the dog is owned by a. family on Marbleridge Road and is a very large dog. He said~that the dog grabbed .his horse by the nose and knee and the horse still has s large scar on his leg. He has dug large holes snd after they have been filled in, the dog ~e~urns and digs them up again. He has ruined the garden to such extent that Mr. Wilco~ did not get anything out o~ it. He said the dog came after his cow and the cow got away and went into Boxford and Ha (Mr. Wilcox) had to send two men to Boxford after him.
