TREE R~0VAL HF~ING:
A hearing was held on the request of William A. Flynn of 282 R~ilroad Ave. to have
a large tree removed which interferes with sewerage. The board voted ~o refer this
to the tree warden and request him to remove the tree.
DOG HEARZNG POSTPONED:
The hearing on the complaint of Charles Wilcox about a dog owned by Mrs. Eva
Vi~lgolaski of 116 Marbleridge Rd. was held over until November 1, 1948 at
8:00 o'clock P.M., at the request of Attorney Arnold H. Salisbury,
BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS -BOSTON
A letter was received from Charles A. Fritz of Beverly, stating that the plan sent
by the Selectmen and s report concerning the entire matter was forwarded to
Mr. Lawrence at the main office in Boston and a report will be sent directly from
that office.
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS- CHAPTEr90 CONTRACT:
A copy of contract 11135 covering work to be done in this %own under Chapter 90,
Section 34, of the General Laws, Ed. was received from the above department.
U.S.NAVAL RESERVE:
An' invitation to inspect the Lawrence Naval Reserve Training Center on October
27, Navy Dey was received and accepted mith thanks.
PODICE REPORT 0N SPEEDING:
A report wes received from Chief McKee on the survey made by the Chief and Mr.
tJames Perry and Mr. Hancock of the Registry of Motor'Vehicles. The report stated
tha~ the section of Main Street and Chickering Road had been checked for speed
b¥stopwatch over a distance of an eighth of a mile and the average speed was found
to be'.32 mph with a few carsoperating between.40-50 mph. Charts were~ presented
showing the registration and speed of each car.
At-Turnpike and Tollsnd, the average speed is 35-40 mph and it was recommended
that ~an additional Go Slow-Children ~gn be placed here.
It"was'also recommended that another sign be placed-at each approach to the
:'intersection at Main St. and Chickering Rd.-Go Slow-Children and to re-locate
the white linss to channel, traffic into single lines. ~ ~
At Mass; Ave. the report stated that mosm of the traffic is local and it was
recommended that the sp.eed limit be reduced to 25 mph and signs be erected by the
Sele~'tmen. It w~s also recommended that ~pot Enforcement be conducted by the
'Registry in cooperation with the Police Department.
The Board accepted the report and Mr. Coffin suggested that a letter be sent to
the chief showing the appreciation of this board for the good report and that
matter be held over until next week when the full board will be present.
REQUEST FOR STREETSLIGHT:
Anthony Rogers of 311 Clark Street petitioned the board for two s~ree~ lights on
Olar~ Stree~ and the board voted to have two 1000 lumen lights installed, one
at the. intersection of Osgood and Clark Street and the other at Clark Street
near the new Rich!yn Cluv, Inc.
The Board also voted to have a 1000 lumen light installed on Pembrook Road at the
request of'Vincent LaOolla.
DEMOCRAtf~ STATE COMMITTEE:
A list of precinct officers was mailed at their request in compliance with the
prsvisi0ns of Section 12 and 13 of Chapter 54, to Boston, Mass.
ADVISORY BOARD:
A form was received from Mr. A. E. Sunderland, Chairman of the Advisory Board
which is suggested for use in the future whenit b~ecomes necessary to apply for
transfers', from the Reserve Fund.
POLICE FOP~S:
Samples'of new forms to be used in the Poltce, Departmentfor complaints and damage
reports were presented to the board.
MEETING'ADJOURNED:
NOVEMBER 1, 1948:
The regular weekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at 7:00 P.M. with
all members present. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved.
NEW ENGLAND TEL. & TEL.O0.- LANRENOE GAS &~ELECTRIC CO:
A hearing was held at 7:30 P.M. on the petition of the above companies for
abandonment of 1 light pole on Main Street. P~tition covering Plan Nc. 14.
Board voted unanimously to grant petition.
