The ~ard voted to view the premises on Prospect Street and then decide where
the light should be.
SNOW RENOVAL:
Mr. Csr~, celled the Selectmen on Sunday with respect to requesting an emergency
in sofar as it existed. Mr. Catty will present the figures and the Advisory
Board end the Selectmen can take care of this matter and avoid having a special
town meeting.
JEFFERSONS QUARE:
The board voted to grant permission to the committee for Christmas Carols to
be held at this square, to blnck off the square from 7 to 8 o'clock with permission
of the Chief o~ Police and the Nighwey Surveyor.
STREET LIGHT:
The Selec%men agreed to check on the street light in front of the town building
which is very small. John Walsh of 100 Main Street came before the board and
asked if they could do something about it. He said many people miss the bus at
this section because the drivers cannot see them when they step out into the
street. He said a larger light would serve the purpose or if the !ight~were changed
down ~o the bus stop, people could easily be seen hy the drivers. This will be
checked by the board.

The regular weekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held. ail 7:00P.M.
with all members present. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved. -'
NEW ENGLANDTEL. & TEL. CO: LAWRENOE~AS&ELECTRIO CO:
Hearing was held at 7:15 P.M. on the petition of the NEW ENGLAND TEL~ &TEL~. CO.
&LAWRENCE GAS &w~.WCTRIC COMPANY for permission to locate poles, wires, etc. on the
State Highway By-Pass, southeasterly from a point,il27 feet southeastof Hillside
Road, 3 poles. The board voted unanimously to grant this request. Allabutters
had been notified and. there was no opposition.
NEW ENGLAND TE~. & TEL.O0:
Hearing at 7:20 P.M. on the petition of the above company to erect 4 poles
and abandon $ poles on Hillside Road, southeasterly from a point 200 feetaouth-
east of Chestnut Street; northwesterly from a point 206 feet northwest of Iunes
Street, 2 poles and abandon 4 poles; northwesterly from a point 806 feetnorth-
west of Innes Street, 2 poles, and abandon 4 poles. Mt.Arthur Bohnwagner came
before thebeard and he discussed the service which he receives from theTelephone
Company. Mr. Joseph Flanagan,.representative of the Telephone Co. said ha'felt
that this was a matter which should be taken up with the manager and not with
the. selectmen. Mr. Bohuwagnar did say that i~ installing these poles meant better
service, he was agreeable. This was discussed for some time and'Mr. Finneran then
made a motion that tbe~etition be granted. Motion was seconded by Mr. Coffin
vote was unanimcus.
SNOW REMOVAL: -'
Ira Ca~, Highway Surveyor cams before the board with respect~to money for snow
removal during the recent storm. He said that he felt that $700 would be sufficient
to~ take care of all bills ~but he said he. would like to ,.,:wait until next Monday and
.see what happens during the week and then he would have the total amount of bills.
This was agreeable with the board and the amount will be before the Selectmen~ at
their next meeting.
COASTING-ROADSBLOCKED OFF:'
There was a discussion with Mt. Catty about the roads robe blocked off if and when
there is coasting for the children. The board voted to have. the following streets
blocked off from four o'clock B.M. to nine o'clock P.M.S U~ion,$t~?~.eet from Marble,
head Street to the dump and Union Street from Marblehead S~r~e~perrYstreet;
Parley Road from High Street to Thorndike Road; Stevens Street at Great Pond Road
to Marbleridge Road at'Great Pond Road. This was a motion which was made and seconded
and voted unanimously~ mith coasting prohibited on any other.streets in tows.
A motion was then made and Seconded that the Highway Surveyor.stndy'the situation
with the Chief of Police and make a report to this board with respect to coasting in
the~pecific area. Vote was unanimous,and willcsntinue until otherwise changed by
a vote oft he board.
CIVIL SERVICE-POLICE .
John Willis came before the board to inquire if they had received a list for the
police department and again to ~emind them that he is available for one of the
positions as police officer.
