Lyons. NOTES SIGNED BY BOARD:~ James ~. Maker, treasurer ca~el~e~re the board and notes were signed so that Mr. Maker could borrow ~h~ su~ of $300,000. There will be four, S5,000 bonds and four$2500bohds. POLICE DEPARTMENT: Mr. Thomson ,discussed the matter ~f police protection at Ohickering Road and said he hadbeen informed that~the police feel that they could do~a better Job if they were allowed rouse manual control at this location. Maker ssi Custodian of TaxTitle property and also Auctioneer of Tax Title Property for this yser, :'~GREATERLAWRENCE JOINT BOARDT W UA TENTH ANNIVERSARY: Letter received by the board informing them that the passage.of NiT3190.. which provides for a minimum wage of $.75 per hour is in the Process of being p~ssed and asked that this hoard go on record as urging passage of same,-and asked that the Town Clerk be instructed to write to the memherw of the Congressional delegation from this vicinity informing them o£~hhis action. The hoard held this matter'over until, a copy.ofthis hill HR.3190 could be obtained from' Thomas J. Lane 'so that they would know ~UStlWhat the situation is. MARCH.2~,1949: The-Board of Selectmen voted to abolish the ruling made by the hoard October 31, 19&l relative to the New Policers starting at a salary.which was $5.00 l~ss than the regular.officers and getting a $1.00 increase until the maximum pay ofltha regular officers is reached, and effective as of .1 March 24, 1949, all officers will receive the same salary and any:newly~ appointed officers will receive a starting pay which is the same as the regular officers. This vote was made by ~elephone and the Advisory Board · allowed the~amount~in the appropriation for1949. ... MARCH 28, 1~49: · The regular weekly meeting,of the Board of Selectmen was held at'?:00 P.M. with all~memberspresen~. Weekly bills andpayrolls were approved~ AMERIOAN EED CROSS DISASTER RFL~EF COMMITTEE: F..Milton Howard, Ohairman,'.Malled the board's attentionto his and~this reportlisted the n~mes of all sub-committees, shalters,~a~beem, Rescue, Medical] transportation and Survey, and explaine~ what woUl~d~be done in case of disaster. The report was quite lengthy and he wantedtha board to see the report before submitting %o Mr. Hennessey, Chairmun,..~ Mr. Finneran voted to accordMr. Howard a vote of thanks for his work:as chairman in North Andover and Mr. Thomson suggested that the records show this appreciation of the Boardof Selectmun to Mr. Howard and ~o the Red Cross officials. (File~under American Red Cross) TREE REMCVAL: .: A hearing was held on the ~etition of John Fenton of 65 Marblehead Street for theremoval, ofa mree in front of his property. The tree has been posted and no opposition was presented. The board voted unanimously to instruct the tree warden to remove the tree. DEPARTMENT OF 'PUBLIC UTILITIES: · Notice received that a public hearing will be held' at 166 State House, Boston on Tuesday, April 5, 1949 at 10:00 c'clock,P~, upon the petition of the N.E. Tel. & Tel. Co. for special permission ~o file an increased rate on less than statutory notice. No action taken.
