LAWRENCE GAS ' ELECTRIC COMPANY:
The~board voted unanimously ~o grsn~ permission to excavate to install
.gas service for Louis F. Sirois, 86 Beverly St. 14 feet on street.

The board granted permission to Mrs. RAlph D. York ~o use the hall on
May 13 - 14 for a musical extravaganza.
Permission granted to Martin J. Lawloz, Jr. to use the hall on April 23,
for the V. F. W. Installation.
Hall is available and Mr. Hayes has been contacted, also Mr. Callahan.
COMPLAINT:
Mr. Roger Camf of 23 William Street ~sked if the Selectmen could do
anything about the sand blowing around from Glennie Milk Plant where they
are building a new '~are house, and the sand blows in the house, garage and
on the lawn. The residents are greatly annoyed by this sand and would like
to have something done about it. The board voted to refer this complaint
to Mr. Glennie.
PARKING-MAINT STREET
The' board voted to hold over the matter of parking on Main Street, between
Morton Street and the railroad tracks. This area has been checked by Police
Chief McKee and the residents are willing that there should be no parking
on the west side of Main Street. The board will take this matter up a~a
later date.
SPECIAL POLICE OFFICE~S:
The appointment of special police'officers was deferred for one week.
V~.GOLASKI DOG HEARING:
This hearing was scheduled for A~ril 4, but since the matter came before
the board at a prior date, Mr. Saltsbury will be contacted before Monday
~o see what the present status of the case is.
G. J. M~J~ONEY:
Not{ce received that Mr. Mahoney will arrange with Charles Perry for
completion of the program with respect to the "Town Dump" lease.
DEP~.RT:,~NT OF PUBLIC WOR~S:
.Notice received from the Office of the Commissioner that for the calend~r
year 1949 the Department has voted to raise the limit for force account
projects zo $25,000 so that reimbursement for projects for which the combined
allotments are $25,000 or less will be based on a ctunl cos~uandthe unit
price method will be followed only for these projects on which the c6m~inSd
allotments exceed $25,000. On.completion of the 1949 projects the expenditures
by tha cities and towns will be checked and after the check-up, a decision
made as to whether or not to continue this policy in the future.
~FIOE OF THE SECRETARY:
Notice informing the board that a~plication for a certificate of incorporation~
as provided for in Chapter 180 of the General Laws, T. E. under' the name of
Liederkranz Singing Society, Inc. was ~eceived and the names of of Christian
So'liner, and Henry Klier were ~isted. Both persons were investigated and
approved by the board. Form returned to the office of the Secretary~
APRI~ 4, 1949:
The ~regular weekly~eting .of the Board of Selectmen was held at 7:00 P.M. wi~h
all members present. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved.
STREET LIGHT REQUEST:
Charles Kent, Jr. requested a street light to be installed near his home
a~ 470 Stevens Street. The area is very dark and they feel that a light
is necessary. The board will check this location before any action is
taken.
TREE REMOVALHF~tRING:
A hearing on the petition of Mrs. Margaret Callahan of'30 Union Street for
the removal of a tree in front of her property at 157-159 Railroad Ave.
The board granted the request by unanimous vote. Mr. Conners informed the
board that this tree ha~ been causing trouble with the sewers and he was
instructed to remove the ~ree.
