AUGUST 15, 1949:
The Selectmen met at 1:30 P.M. to signbil!s, payrolls and transact routine
business.
JUROR DRAWN:
Mr. Coffin drew the name of Harold Tyning of 271 Sutton Street to serve as a
traverse Juror at Salem Superior Court on 9/12/1949.
DOG COMPLAINT:
With respect ~o a complaint received~recentlyfrom George Thompson about a dog
owned by Mrs. Eleanor George of 360 Andover Street, North Andover, the Board had
previously issued an order mo Mrs. George that she not allow her dog off the
premises unless on a leash and to further restrain the dog from annoying people.
The Board then voted to ask. Mr. Thompson if this was agreeable to him if the
dog was restrained and if so, no action would be taken at this time.
SENATE CHAMBER, ~OSTON:
Communication received with respect to the ooposition, offered by this board
to the inclusion of North Andover in the extension of the aqueduct system from
Wachusett Reservoir to the Merrimack Valley, in a bill then pending, since passed
and signed. In order that there be no financial burden placed on North Andover,
John W. C~ddaire, Jr. offered an amendment to the bill in the Senate and it was
adopted, striking North indover out of the bill. (File U.S. Senate file)
COUNTY COMM!SSIO:~ERS:
Complaint received from John:J. Mahoney of 57 Davis Street that three pigs were
killed by unknown dogs on Turnpike St. No. Andover. The vslue of the three pigs
.was $50.00 and notice was sentto Commissioners after Chief McKee and A. A. Thomson
had viewed the pigs.
· REVOLVER PE~IT:
Application for a license to carry a revolver was approved unanimously for
:Chester H. Oramton., 671 Chestnut St.
CITY OF I~WRENCE- MARSTON ST.DUMP.
Communication received from Gordon E. Gaffney, ~ity Clerk, Lawrence, informing
:the board that the City of Lav~ence had called for bids for the construction of
a ne~v refuse incinerator, .and bids will be received on August 29. He also
stated that it is impossible a~ thist.~e to. state how quickly it will be possible
to abandon the Marston Street ~ump.
LA%'~RENCE GAS& ELECTRIC COMPA;~:
T~he_Board voted to grant permission to excavate to i~stall gas service for Lena
Pr~s~c~ott, 20 Middlesex St., 30 feet on street, and to excavate to install gas
main and services on Patriot, Francis, Baldwin and Gilbert Streets. Mr. Catty
notified of th~se permits.

Notic& received th, at the .tower clock in the Johnson High School will be checked
in the near future as requested by this board on August 5, 1949.
.STREET LIGHT SFADE:
communication received from Mrs. F. C. Redman of 88 Elm Street, requesting that
a shade be installed so t.hat the li~htwill not shine into the home which is
veryannoyin~. This is caused by the removal of a tree whihh had previously
.shaded the light. The matter willbe referred to the Lawrence G~S & Electric Co.

Notice received that the Assocaition will hold ~ts 1949 ~xoosition Dinner atthe
Copley Plaza Hotel on Wednesday, September 14, 1949 at 7:O~ P.M. Tfckets were
enclosed for reservations but no action was %aken by the board.
AUGUST~
~-~ard of S6lsctmen held their by-monthly meeting at 7:00 P.M. with all members
'present% Weekly bills and payrolls were a~proved.
DOG C0~,~PLAINT:
~&r. George came before the board and informed them that the dog owned by his mother,
Eleanor George, had been hit by an automobile and received a broken leg. He said
the~og is a Doberman Pincher, weighs about 70 pounds and thathe is not vicious
and the only time he is off the chain is when children come into the yard and
let him go. He said the dog is now at home andis being taken care of by Dr. Bulger.
Mr. George Thompson had informed the board-~that the dog in question was around his
place on Friday night after he was supposed to have been on a leash but that later
he had been hit by an automobile and he did not know thw condition of the dog.
