ASSESSOBS REVALUATION PROJECT: -:..'
Leo Murphy came before the board and informed %hem that there hag b;e~ co~id~ra~ie
talk about this project. Re mentionedtha~ he thought the assessors~hould have
. book'printed giving all the valuations rather than wait until 1950. ~e~sai~'that

Mr.. Thomson informed Mr. Murphy that the Selectmen have no Jurisdictionover
· ssessors with respect ~o the revaluation project and the printingoD~this' book.~.
Mr~Murphy felt that the book could be printed a~d have a supplemen~.~&~ico~er any~
~adJustments which might be ~ade.
.Mr'. Coffin said he agreed with Mr..Thomson end in looking ~yer some of..the"assessmen~s
there is something ~rong but that w~uid'rest with the assessors

Mr! M6rphy compared Other buildings, Di'Mauro's on Main Street, the ~D/mg.!Store
a~Finnerans, the Jansen Block and the Wright property o~ Main Str~t~.~w~i'ch
~ ;h~istated is assessed for $9,000 now and has been reduced from $12,0~0/.'Re~,~felt
that something was wrong with the comparative value.
Mr. Thomson informed him that with a new survey there was bound tobe~ome'~changes
but the assessors are holding special meetings and that until the assessors, mlke,
come decision as to what changes can be made, the book in question should be held
over ~until 1950 and then would be more accurate. He also felt that the. assessors
should be interested in the material Mr, Murphyhas available.
Mr. Coffin said hefirmlybelieved that a revaluation project was so~ly.~needed by
the ~own and that the assessors have withstood the criticism very well and he admired
them for it but it takes time to iron out all these difficulties. He. s~id that in
many instances some values have gone up where they were very iow previoMs~$o, this
project.
Mr. Murphy agreed with this but he stated that this was a scientific project. ~e
believes that it depsnds uponwho you are.

Mr. Murphy brought up the matter of the re-vised by-laws and wanted to know
the date of the meeting to be held by the Selectmen when these by-laws will
be discussed.
Mr. Coffin advised him to take some notes end come to the board with the
Selectmen anddiscuss these metters~
PRE¢INCTOOFFICER APPOINTED:
Mrs. Emily Murphy of Main Street was appointed as Inspector (Republican) .
in Precinct One to fill the vancancy caused by the resignation of John
Muldowney.
FIRE ENGINEERS:
Mr. Coffin inquired of the other members if they wanted %o bring the matter
of the fire engineers to a close w~th respect to conflict existing in the
department. If it does exist, we should teke further action.
Mr. Finneran said that there is no conflict existing according to their
own words.
Mr. Coffin said he still believed that it does exist ~ven if the chief says
it does not.
Mr. Thomson said that his impression from information made available and
brought ou~ at the meeting of the Selectmen and the Board of Fire Engineers
was that there was not a serious conflict existing in the department, among
the Fire Engineers.
Mr. Finneran stated that he did not believe that any action is necessery.
DEpARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS:
Copy of an order drawn on this ~own in favor of Yemms Brothers, Inc. for
.the sum of $4,292.50 on account of work done under contract with the town
was received. The original of this order ha~ been forwarded to the contractor.
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS:
Communication received with respect to a letter'sentby the Selectmen on
July 1S, 1949 about Route ll4at Wilson's Corner. The Department stated
that because of the. need to handle areas with a worse accident record that
they have been unable ~o design engineers tp study Route 114. The matter of
the racing season end additional traffic to handle is understandable but they
felt the% it would be unfair to set up a speed control program to handle
such unusual condition and then try to control the normal traffic with the
same progrsm. They stated that the best they could aim at wes to make some
compromise that will be fair to all.
REVOLVER PEPJ,1ITS:
The board voted tmanimously to grant license to carry a pistol or revolver
to Turner A. Bridges of 160 Foster Street and toJohn C. Bonney of 846 Chestnut
Street.
DOG COMPLAINT:
Mr~ C~ffin brought up the matter of a dog complaint and Mr. Dolan was advised
to check'on the dog owned by Mrs. Hogan of High Street. He reported that
the dog has been restrained since last May when Pearl Currier complained about~:
the dog annoying her. No further action will be taken unless there is further
complaint about this dog.
OV~NGING.SIGN:
Raymond Roy asked for permission to have an overhead sign a~ his Television
shop on Mass. AVe. He will furnish a $1,000 bond and present it to the ~own
Clerk.
