DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS:
Notice received that order drawn on this to~n in favor of Yemma Bros, Inc. for
the sums of $2,247.38 and $2,400 on account of work done under contract with the
town has been forwarded to the Contractor. Bill sent to Highw~ Department for
payment.
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC UTILITIES:
Notice received that a public hearing will be held as to the propriety of the
rates and charges of the Western Union Telegraph Company filed under M.D.P.U
No. 47, on Monday, February 27, 1950 at 2:30 P.M. at hearinglroom, State
House, Boston, #166. ....
SNOW EMERGENCY:
On February 15, 1950, the Selectmen declared a "Snow Emergency,, at request.
of Highway Surveyor, Ira D. Carry. No figures are available as to the cost
of' this emergency. Mr. Maker stated that. unless the amount, exceeds one twelfth
of his appropriation, no special action is necessary.
REPORT OF ACCIDENT:
Robert Cole reported that his wife, Elsie Cole, of 13 May Streetfell on the
sidewalk in front of the Police Station at 7:30 A.M. on February 16, 1950
and received a concussion. Dr. Julius Kay is' attending her and the c cst of
medical .car~ and perhaps X-rays has no~ been determined; Mr. Cole stated that
the sidewalk was not sanded at this particular spet. No actzon ta~en.~.
BUS SERVICE:
MA'; Coffin' reported that he had received numerous complaints Pwith respect to
bus service in North Andover, some stating that the buses 4o not operate on
time. Mr. Coffin suggested that we ask for bus time tables and see if~ there has
been any buses dropped. 'Mr. Coffin stated that he has nothing .specific to tell
'but he felt that we should find out something about the.matter.
It' was'finally agreed that a letter should be sent 'asking for 'information on the
bus schedule and then ask for a representative to come in to talk with 'the board
~t a ,later: date, if this is felt necessary.'
SCHOOL SIGN:
Mr. Finneran brought up the matter of a four foot sign which had been mentioned
to Mr. Coffin and Mr. Finneran by Mr. Hugh Strain, Motor Vehicle investigator
and asked if it was thought an opportune time to ask for this" sign.now or wsit

TOWN CLERK:
%Mr. John Lyons came before ~he board and gave the following' figures as the
number of registered voters in each precinct: Precin~t.1- 1117; 2-1519; 3-1294
and in 4-1390, .making a total of 5,320 ,voters. Mr~ Lyons also informed ~he board
that all workers in the Precincts would be sworn in on .Wednesday night with
respect to G.-R. 619 and that new rules would be given to them at that time.

The regular weekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at 7:00 ,P.M.
with all members present. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved~ also O.A.A;
and A.D.C. payrolls.
STEVENS HALL:
Mrs. Danforth requested the use of Stevens Hall for May 1, 1950. to helda testimonial
for Rev.-Clinton Carvel who has been in the church for- the past 26 years. The
board voted unanimously to grant this.·request subject to their taking careof
the janitor and any other expense incurred. The hall is .availAble for that
evening. ·
LAWRENCE GAS & ELECTRIC CO:
Notice ~received that a 1000 lumen street light has been installed at Morris
Street, Pole #3~71 and at Concord Street, Pole #~23,~.'on February 17, 1950
as requested in our letters of January.17 and 31,1950.
LAWRENCE GAS & ELECTRIC COMPANY:
Petition received for permission to locate poles, wires, e~c. on the easterly
side of Boxford Street, at points approximately 4783 feet, 5105 feet, %412 feet,
5709 feet,' 6009 feet, and 6284 feet easterly and southerly from Forest Street,
5 poles. A hearing was set for March 13, 1950 a~ 7:30 P.M. and all abutters
· will be notified.
PEDDLERS LICENSE:
The board approved the license of Joseph Candiano cfM ass. Ave. with respect
to his character and ci$izenship.
