The regular weekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held a~ 7:00 P.M.
with Member Coffin still absent because of illness. Weekly'Bills and payrolls
were approved.
STREET LIGHT REQUEST:
JohnWilcox and a group of neighbors from this section of the town (Forest St.)
came before the board to discuss street lights. They would like to have a
lkkht at the corner of Forest and Boxford St. if possible. It is very dark
here and it is difficult ~o locate the street. Mr. Wilcox stated tha~ there
are three lights within 200 fee~ and one light is over the fire alarm box. There
are more residents here now and a light would be appreciated.
The board decided ~o check this location and make a report later.
DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL SERVICE
Notice .received of a s:atewide examination for Junior clerk and typist, and
suggested that theremey be persons employed on a provisional basis whose
services must, under the !s~, be ~erminated if a lis~ is established and
asking that this examination be called to the a~tention of all department
heads employing such persc~s. At present there are no provisional appointees,
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC UTILITIES:
Notice received tha~ a hearing will be held upon investigation of the propriety
of the rates and charges stated in Supplement ~l ~o M.D.P.U., at'the hearing
room of Public Utilities 166 State House, Boston, on Tuesday, April 18, 1950
a~ 10:O0 A.M. has been postponed to an indefinite date.
R~JOLVER P~PJ~IT:'
The Board approved the application of Benjamin E. Hollins, 24 Saltonstall
Road to carry a revolver for tarfe~ practice. Unanimous~ vote.
NEW, ENGLanD TEL. & TEL. CO:
Petition received covering ~lan No. 35 covering the ab~udonmen% of one
pole on Great Pond Road. No hearing im ~ecessa~yand the board approved the
petition by unanimous vote.
WTRING INSPECTOR:
Application for the position of wiring inspector received from Dan!~ L'
Moynihan~of 9 ~y Street who has a journeyman's license and feels qualified
to do this work. Application filed with other applications for this position.
Bosrd did not take any action on this position due to the illness of Mr. Coffin.
CIVIL SERVICE:
The Board wro~e a letter to the-Director of Civil Service relative to a list
for the positions of patrolmen as vo~ed at the Annual Town Meeting.
men are to be appointed from the Reserve List and ~he board ms awaiting
a reply from Civil~Service before any action is taken.
APPOINTMENTS:
The Board voted to de~$yall appointments until there is a fall board.'

STEVENS HALL:
The Boardgranted permission ~o the V.F.W. to use Stevens Hall .on April 22,
1950 to hold their annual installation of officers. The hall is available
for t~t evening but there will be Scenery on the back stage that will no~
be removed for the 22nd of April. Mr. Lawlor will be con~acted about this
.matter.
V.F.W. CARNIVAL:
The Board granted permission to the V.F.W. ~o hold a carnival at Suttons Field
from July 31, 1950 to,August 5, 1950.
LAWRENCE GAS& ELECTRIC CO:
A hearing was held at 7:30 P.M. on the petition of this company to locate
poles, wires and fixtures on the northerly side of P~easant Street a~ the
easterly line of Chickering Road, 1 pole. (One existing .light company pole
location to be abandoned.
No opposition was offered and all abutters had been notified. ..i~h~e Board
voted unanimously to grant this request.
