Thomson said he ~mew both men picked were good reliable men and ho felt obliged %o second the motion of Mr. Finneran and vote for Thomas Lebel at a salary of $300 per year and .$25.00 for expenses. Motion then made and seconded that Thomas Lebel be appointed Wiring Inspector ~under Chapter 166, Section 32, for the balance of the burren~ year at a salary-of $300 and expenses of $25..00. This was a majority vote, Mr. Coffin stating.that he %~ished to be recorded as voting for George Stewart but that he fel~ that Mr. Lebel was highly qualified but it was a matter of principle. RECREATIONAL COUNOIL: Th~'~'~board '~p~ointed six members of this council and will appoint another member in the near future: Mrs. Elizabeth Elliott, Myra Stillwell, George F.. Lee, Carl A. Thomas, Nathaniel Archer and William Smith. Wtllia,~ Bower is no longer available for this committee. SPECIAL POLICE OFFICERS: The Board voted, to hold this over and have the list checked' for active members before taking any action. DRINKING FOUNTAIN: ~ ~. · The Boand voted to.hold the matter of calling for bids, over for one .week to determine the Best location for the fountain. DEPART~NT OF PUBLIC UTILITr~.~: ' A public hearing to be held as to the propriety of the ra~es and charges stated therein on Monday, April 10, 1~50 a~ 9:30 A.M. in the -5~a~e House, Room 166. APRIZ 10, 1950: -- '. The regular weekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at 7:00'P.M. with ~ members present. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved. ~DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS: i~L~tter infc~mi~.g t~ board that th~,pooly functioning open culvert on Mass. Ave. between Greene Street and Chickering Road is being cleaned out and it-is expected that conditions willbe improved. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS: Letter received informing the boand that the district Traffic Engineer~ will con,act the cha~ ~man relative to the .erection of School signs and~ that the contract for the .pedestrian signals has~ already been .awarded and should be in operation within a month. BOARD OF TRADE: .Letter received from Mrs. W. C. Bullock, Chairman of the Traffic Control of Board of Trade inquiring when this board-.intends to call the proposed meeting of representatives of various local organi~ktions to discuss the traffic ..problems. .No action was taken as the Select~eu are to meet to-morrow morning with the district traffic engineer to discuss signs and the board will be ~nsa better position ~o discuss this matter. INSPECTOR OF ANIMALS: Approval of the appointment of Robert J. Burke as inspector of animals for 1950 was received from the Department of Agriculture, William Casey, Director. APPOINTMENT: The board voted unanimously to appoint Arthur R. Farnham, as ~arveyor of wood, bark and .lumber as his name had been left off in error. STREET LIGHT~-KI~LL DISTRICT: Royce Bodge, Ernest Fickenworth and Anthony Camasso ca~.e in ~o ask for additional s~reet light in their 'district.~ Mr. Camasso requested a light on' the corner of Foster and Winter Streets, and the group asked for three street lights on Salem from the corner up ~o the Kruschwi%z ~proper~y. Mr. Fickenworth asked for a light on Foster Street, above the corner, where the fire alarm box is now located. They agreed that these lights were not required immediately but theywould like ~o have them in the fall' and the board voted to keep them on file a~d. then in the fall take some action on them. This was agreeable to ~ concerned. CHILD WELFARE WEEK ~ Louis Saunders came before the board and informed them that the National Body of American Legion through it,s posts, are setting April 16th as.the we~k Child Welfare Week. Mr. Saunders asked that the Selectmen endorse this program and also Go to church' week~ Letters are ~o be sent out to pas%ors and organizations and the Board agreed %o do what they could ~o help with t~is program.: J~NK LICENSE: The board grante~'a Junk license to Ar{bar .Frechet~e of 33 Stonington 'Street.
