RESERVE POLICE OFFICERS:
Leo Macklin, 3 Belmont St. came in to see if the board plans to appoint two more
reserve officers tc the list and if so he is available and is on the present
list. No action was taken by the board as only two members were present.
MAY 8,1950~
~-l'~weekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at 7:30 P.M. with
all members present. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved.
TREE REMOVAL REQUEST:
Daniel Denovan, 23 Maple Avenue requested the removal of a tree in front of
his proper~y at 27-29 Maple Avenue. The roots of the tree get into the sewer
pipes and he has had to pay money out each year, The board voted to refer
this to the tree warden, John J. Conners for his opinion and posting of same.
~A hearing was set for May 22, 1950 at 7:30 P.M.
TREE RMOVAL HEARING:
A hearing was held at 7.:25 P.M. on the petition of James Peters, 58 Saunders
Street for the removal of a tree at 58 Saunders Street. The board voted
unanimously to instruct the tree warden .to remove this tree.

PETITION FOR 'SPECIAL TOWN ~EETING:
Philip T. Miller, 94 Saunders Street, presented a petition with 200 names of
registered voters, requesting the Board of Selectmen to hold a special town
meeting and an article to be inserted in ~he~arrant to see if the town~ of
North Andover will vote to' sell to Philip T. Miller for the sum of $~00
or such other sum as the'meeting may determine, the land_owned by the town
and'located on Dale Street, e parcel containing 3.05 acres. The board woted
~o' accept the petition, and take action'withi~n thirty days.
.INSURSNCE-RESERVE POLICE OFFICERS:
Roger Dehullu ~ame before the board to discuss the matter of 'insuring the
reserve'police officers. The cos~'will be $12.50 per mah and~here are now
five reserve officers. They wo~ld be covered if inJured~i~' performing their
duties as police officers in ~he tow~. The board discussed this' matter a~
some length and the fact that these officers will be used for vacation periods
and the fact that they could be seriously injured, the board decided that they

'!?~-~:~:-:~Mr. Dehullu stated that he believed that there was sufficient money in the
appropriatio~ for' this year. If not, the board will requ~s~ a transfer from
the Reserve ~and. The board also agreed that any additional men 'appointed
to the Reserve Force would also be covered at once. .

a Reserve officer and would like to be appointed as soon. as possible.
The board voted to request a list from the Division of C~il Service of. men
available for this appointment.
LAWRENCE GAS & ELECTRIC COMPANy:
The board held ahearing at 7:30 P.M. on the petition of this COmpany for
p~mission to locate poles~ wi~es and fixtures on the westerly side of Linden
AvenUe,, a~ a point approximately 850 feet southerly from Greene Street, 1 pole.
Allabutters were notified and no opposition was offered..The board voted
unanimously to grant this request. ~
NOTIFICATION received that in accordance with our request of March 29, 1950
a 1000 lumen~treet light was installed on pole #2~30 on Boxford Stree~ and
was ~urned on Msy~, 1950.
POLE-RAILP. OADAVE. & MASS. AVE:
Sam DiMauro came before the board and requested that they have a pole removed
from the corner of mailroadAvenue and Mass. Avenue which is lying onthe
ground there. The board voted to request this from the Lawrence G & E Co. or
the New~ngland T & T Co.
RECREATIONAL COUNCIL:
The Board vo~ed unanimously to appoint John Cushing, 34 Salem Street as a member
of the Recreational Council upon.smbmisS~nn of this name by Mrs. J. Edmund Elliot.

WATER COOLER-TOWN BUILDING:
The board reviewed the bids for the water cooler to be installed in the town
building and after some discussion they voted unanimously ~o give the award
to Fred Leach, 65 Railroad Avenue and to so notify him. The location will be
determined by the Selectmen.
The following bids were received:

TREASURY DEPARTMENT:
Letter received requesting that the Selectmencoopera%e in getting a message
~o the people of the town with respec~ ~o the Independence Drive to be held
in May and tos~ar~ on May 15, 1950.
The Board voted ~o coopera~e and suuport this drive and do anything in their
power to help make it a success.
HOWARD CLOCK PRODUCTS:
Communication received informing the board that the tower clock in the Johnson
High Schcol will be serviced in the near future.
INSURanCE:
Notification from Mr. Duffy, Supt. of Public '~orks that H.T. Boiler No.1
M.S. No. 883 and H.~ Boiler No. 2, M.S, No. 2650 and the Laidlaw-Dunn-Gordon
Pump 22930 at the Pumping Station are not being operated butare on stand-by
aervice only. They a re now using a 150 H.P. General ~ectric, ~ ph. 60 cycle,
2300 ? motor, 1750 RPMNO. WF 6863230 with a Warren Centrifugal 5-TL*~Pump No.
39842 with Clark con,roller and Nas AL-574~acuumpump with 2 H.P. motor.
Copy of this information willbe sent to Mr. ~hipple, ~hairman of the Insurance
Agency 'in North Andover.
WIRING INSPECTOR:
Thomas Lebel cane before the board and informed them that he had attended a
mccting in Boston and had.secured several ordinances to be adopted.
prepare teem and ask that they be inserted in the next warrant 'for any special
~own meeting to be held in the near future.
MAY15, 1950:
The re~zlarweekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held a~ 7:00 P.M.
with ~ members present. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved.
GREENE STRm"ET: ....
Leonard .0ates cane before the board to discus~ th.e.County Road(Greene Street)
and see what i~ to be done. He said Lawrence has h~d money appropriated but
usedi, t for Mt. Vernon Street instead of fixing up t. his road which would be
a good through way to Lawrence. The board decided to~-ite a letter to the
County Commissioners.
Later, May 16, the board met with the county engineer and Mr. Brasseur and
Carty and there seems to be some plan pending whereby this road will be fixed
up and no letter will be written, per Mr..~homson.
M~DVE BUILD]~G: .
The board voted unanimously on 5/ll/195G(by telephone) to allow Loring Foster
~o move a building 16'x12'xS, from Chestnut Street to Milk Street, to Salem
Street to Faster Stree~ to the Foster ~arm. The Police will be notified and an
officer supplied if one is necessary.. ~
~REEREM~VAL:
A hearing on the removal of a tree a~ 90 Second Street on petition of John
Roche was held at 7:20 P.M. and the board vo~ed unanimously to instruct the
~ree warden to remove the tree.
Hearing on the petition of Gaston Desmulier, 27 Belmont Street for the removal
oD a uree was held at 7;25 P.M. and the board voted unanimcusly ~o instruct
the ~ree warden ~o remove this tree.

The' board granted permission to install gas ~ervice at 112 Pleasant Street, 40
fee% on s$reet by unanimous vote.
