Mr. Nason presented the flag to the board on behalf of the North Andover Gran§e and
asked that it be flown on U.N.Day, October 24,1950.
Mr. Thomson told those p~esent that the board was very appreciated of their coming
here and bringingthis symbal of peace. He stated that Mr. Hayes, principal of the
High School had looked everywhere for a U.N. ~lag for the exercises to be held
on October 24, and Mr. Thomson stated that it was certainly a fine thing for the
Grange to make this flag for North Ando~r.
PERAMBULATING BOUNDS:
Tae Selectmen will meet with the Boxford Selectmen on Wednesday afternoon at 1:00
P.M. to perambulate the bounds between North Andever and Boxford.
BOOKIES:
A com~icationreceived from the Trinitarian Congregation~ Church, by Mrs.
Miriam Andrews, Sec. requesting that they be brought up to da~e on progress made
with respect to bookie activities in North Andover. The board voted to send
along further information received after date of June 7, 1950. At present there
is .no person in North Andover receiving Western Union facilities who disseminate
racinE information to subscribers.
DAMAGE C~OMPLAINT:
After some discussion with Donald Farrow who asked for reimbursement for damage to his car
caused by a hole in the road (Great Pond Road) the board voted to pay the full cost
of the damageS35.60 and send a release ~o Edmund Farrow, father and guardian of Donald.
Mr. F~rrow sxT~lained that the tire which was ruined was three months old and that a
brake cable was~ broken and out of line.~his will be~mid from the contingent fund.
DAMAGE COMPLAINT:
Chief M~Kee reported on the claim of William G~eans, of Essex and stated that
the road' had been dug upon. September 14, 1950 on Andove~ Street and the damage
occurred on. lO/1/1950. On October 11, 1950, Mr.. Charles Emerson of Andover reported
to'the police department that there was a large hole on Andover Street and the
Chief .reported this to the Water De~r~ment.
The board vpted to ask Mr. Duffy for his cooperation i~ verifying or disclaiming
this defect in the street.

DIVISION OF'CIVILSERVICE-POLITICALACTIV~TIES:
Notification received from Thomas J. Greehan that there is nothing in the Civil
Service Lawwhich prohibits a civil service employee of a town from engaging in a
~olitical ~ctivity.Tor .a candita~e other than himself. The letter stated that
warfare employees come under General Law, Chapter 55, Sections 11,12 and 29 ~
the Hatch Act.
REVOLVER'PERMITAPPLICATION:
The board ~ppreved the application of Fred J. Doyle, 55 Brightwood ave. for a
license to carry a revolver for target practice.
P~OLICE DEPARTMENT COMPLAINT:
Mrs~ u~w~Hallsworth 24 East Water St. made a written complaint about Officer
Everett V~oodhouse with respect to remarks made about her and she would like to
have him correct his statement.. The remark was made infront of her son and
other- people.

DEPARTMENT OFPUBLIC WORES:
Notice received that a public hearing is to be held at the office of the
Department at lOO Nash~aStreet, Boston on November 2, 1950 at~:30 P.M. to
all persons interested in a revision cfa Special Speed Regulation No. 3
governing the speed of mo~or vehicles on Route 28, State Highway, in North
Andever.
ARMISTICE DAY:
The Commanderof the Legion, Charles Ward .and John Harris came before the board
to ask for a transfer of a sum of money from the Reserve Fund to the Armistice Day
appropriation. An itemized list of the expenses required for this day was given
to She Selectmen and is figured on prices as of to-da~. ~here ~ill be a deficit
of $2~.00 and there maybe more. The board voted to request $50.00 from the
Reserve Fund to make sure that there would be a sufficient sum available~ and
this request will be sent to the Advisory Board for their a~provul.
