Mr. Coffin felt thatall special police officers should be appointed intermitten~ special police officers to be used at t he discre:ion of the Chief. This was a unanimous vote. It w~s further suggested that the Chief contact all special police officers and any who were interested in becoming intermittent police officers and they would bring in their appointment forms and have that added on and also a notice might be inserted in the paper. .JANUARY 22 1951: The regular weekly meeting of'the Board of Selectmen was held at 7:00 P.M. with all members present, lVeekly bills and payrolls were approved. LAWRENCE GAS& ELECTRIC COMPANY: -Letter received from the Law. G & E. Company and the following changes have been made in Street Lighting: 2500 lumen light installed 1/11/51 on pole 1322, Johnson Street; 1000 lumen light installed 1/10/51 on pole 1179, Andover Street. The Board~votedunanimously to have a 1000 lumen light installed on Ty!erRond, near Perreault's resident, pole 173. Mr. Coffin stated that there have been complaints about power failures on Hewitt Avenue and in the upper Massachusetts Avenue section, above Greene Street. The Board voted unanimously to contact the Lawrence Gas & Electric Companyknd have these repeated power failures investigated. REQUEST FOR USE OF STEVENS HALL:~ A request was made by the Auxiliary Police for the use of Stevens Hall on January 28, 1951 at 2:00 P.M. for the purpose of showing pictures about the atomic bo~s. Permission was granted this request. BIDS . T~WNREPORT: The bids for the printing of the t~nreport were opened at 8:00 P.M. and two bids were received as follows: Town Printing Co., Andover, Mass., 1300 copies cf Town Report, 219 pages, at $6.95 per page; and Bee Publishing Company, Lawrence, Mass., same speci£icatmons as in previous years for the sum of $6;45 per page for the same number of copies. The Board voted unanimously ~o award the contract to the Bee Publishing Company at the price of $6.45 per page, according to specifications. BOY SCOUT WEEK - PROCLA~ATION: Letter and Proclamation received from Boy Scouts of America requesting that the proclamation be ret)~ed on official stationery and two copies forwarded to Boy Scouts of America office. Boy Scout~eek is Feb. 6 - 12 and this is the klst Anniversary of Scouting in the United States. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS: (MASS.) T~o letters received from the'Mass. Dept. of Public Works advising that the Commissioners at their meeting voted ~o approve, as of December 30, 1950, the work done by the Board under the provisions of Section 34, Chanter 90 of the General Laws, under contracz ~12352, dated July 25, 1950, and under contradt ~12~07, dated August 29, 1950, the Engineer having reported that the work called for by. said contract has been completed. CHAPTER gO-MONEYFRO~TATE: Mr. Carty and Mr.~M~ker asked the Selectmen ~o contact the State Department to see when they would send'themoney for Chapter 90 work. Mr. ~ker has a no~e which is due on February 7, 19~ and doesn't want tox~new it un~ss it is absolutely necessary.. The Board suggested tham Mrs. Dearden check with Boston and see when the money will be paid. DUMPING ARFA: George Rea, Ira Cartyand Ralph Brasseur came before the Board and discussed the land Mr. Rea has fc~ sale, and the possibility of using it for a dump. Brasseur sta~ed that it vould be necessary tohave a right of way from Boston Street and then check the ~ners of the land abutting. Mr. Coffin felt that the dumping situation was acute and something must be done soon. He- mentioned that we might be able to contac~ Lawrence and perh~ns use their incinerator when it is completed although it might run in~o a large amount of money. The final decision was that Mr. Brasseur, Mr/Rea .and Mr. Carty would view th~s location on Saturday January 27, 1950 to decide if it is a suitable place for dumping and after that is decided, Mr. Brasseur will check further. JM~UARY 22, 1951- continued SPECIAL POLICE* INTERMITTENT: The ma~%er of appointing special' police officers as intermittent was:discus~ed and Mrs. Dearden checked with Civil Service as to the procedure. She was informed that in order to use other than the Reserve Officers, a letter would have to go to the Director giving details as to why the Reserve officers were not'available the list and dates of any R'serve Officer who wen~ into the service and then ~ list of all th~ special officers who are to be appointed as 'intermittent officers. The Director will check the list he has for any veterans who are available and if there are none, he will approve the list san~ in by this board. No intermittent police can be used un~mss the Reserves are not available. The Treasurer will refuse to pay any officers unl~s~ certified by 0ivil Service. ADJUDICATION ~EARING: The board set a hea~ingfc~ the adjudication of Cotuit Street for a distance of 160 feet from Andover Street, for Februaryb, 19Sl a~ ?:30 P.M. which will. be duly advertised, release signed by abutters and copy of~ notice sen~ to Town Clerk. SPECIAL POLICE: . Appointmeht forms were signed by the board for Raloh J. Boldersunand Timo~y McCarthy as of Januarylb, 1951 ' INSURANCE-U. S. FIDELITY AND GUARANTY CO.-BOND ~ELEASED: Letter to the above company at 43 Kilby Street, Boston informing~ them that .the work on Tyler and Pembrook Roads~ for which Michael A. Oristaldi fu~nished b0nd~i #34214-12-433-49 has been completed. The letter is to be accepted as' av~d~nce%~that the work has been completed and Mr. Cristaldi has been ~eleased f~6m a~l obligation under the bond. ' This action w-as taken a~ a meeting of the Board of Selectmen on October 16, 1950 · when they voted unanimously that the bond given tb~ the. Town by Michael Cristaldi be 'released.
