LAWRENCE G & E CO:
The board voted unanimously to grant permission to excavate to inspec: valves
and install res: pipes at Massachusetts near the Shawsheen River. Mr. Car~y
will be notified o£ this permission to excavate.
DEPARTmeNT OF COk%~SATION:
Notice received that the appointment of James Hargreaves as Forest Warden
in North Andover for the year 1951 has been approved.
S2P~T LIGHT REQUESTS:
The board granted the request of Mrs. 'John L. Mylott for a 1500 lumen s~reet
light to be installed on Pembrook Road in front of their property. Pale#h1/5
The board also 'voted to request the installation of a 2500 lumen street light
at the corner of Second Street and Rallrosd Ave. where there a 1000 light~
ak this time. This was requested by a member of the Board of Trade.
INTERMIT. T~N T POLICE:
The board voted to appoint the following police officers as intermittent.
police officers with such authority as may be due under, Civil Service ru3~ s.
John Donovan, 283 Middlesex St..(Vet) 21mothy McCarthy, 86 Main St. (Vet)
· Ralph J. Bolderson, 12 Harold St. Augustine ~alsh; 2~ Chadwick St. Alexander
This action is t~ken to relieve the situation in the police department '~n that
the reserve"'office~s are not available during the day ~hen needed and the above
men would be. NotifY'cation to be sent to Civil Service for 'their approval
of this action.
NEN FIRE ~UCK:
Mr. Thomsun:s~a'~ed that he understood that the ne~ fire truck is:to be~eIivered
on February~27~, He suggested that the old ~bite truck could be stationed down
in the coun~-ry~and .would be of great help!n fighting fires particularly in
the dry season.- He thought~ws 'could inquire of the 'farmers 'and see if 'there~ is
a place 'to keep it.
Peter Ri~chie ;WhO was present-at the meeting stated that this .~as an ~xcellen=
Sugges%~0n and'it would eliminate the danger of fire in the 'country and this
would perhaps involve a small volunteer force.
Mr. 'Thomson felt that it would help 'in tha~ the truck could 'be taken to the
scene of the fire quickly and possibly be lt~ere before the regular 'apparatus
Mr, Coffin suggested tha~ we talk with the Kimball Association members and
perhaps ask them ~o meet with the.board and we could also' talk with the engineers.~

Fred Townsend came :o the meeting and asked for information as to the amount
of money required for
am ~na~ %ne Advisory Board is to meet' Thursday 'and they
will have the figures~available at that time.
· Mr. 'Finneran'also informed Mr. ~ownsend that Mr. Duffy has these'figures
available since the work comes under his department.

The board vbted unanimously to be recorded· as opposed to House Bill
entitled BILL TO'PREVENT OPENING OF BALLOT BOXES IN TO~NS DURING'VOTING HOURS
and on w~ich a hearing is robe held on March 7,- 19~1 at 10:30 A.M. at ~oston.

FACILITIF~ FOR REGISTRATION OF VOTES .on w~ich .a hearing is :o he,held on
February 28,1951 at~ the Sta:e House.· A letter will.he sent ~o the Committee
on Election Laws.

A communication was received from the Board of Trade which stated that they
made the following vote: Resolved: The North Andover Board. of Trade, being
composed of business men and women of the Town, is vitally:interested
'future appointments made by your Board and we respectfully ask your consideration
of any future appointments befnre they are made. At this particular time, we
refer ~o appointments to 0. P. S. Boards or any other matters that are of vital
importance to our business securi~-/. The' bOard voted to accept the letter and
place it on file.
CORNELTUS J. MANONEy:- PETITION FOR ISSUANCE OF ~ITS OF MANDAMUS:
C. J. Mahoney met with the Board of Selectmen to discuss the above petition
and the petition was explained to the board.
Mr. Thomson, inquired if the ma~or was one in which the town officials should
haws counsel.'
