BILL FOR REPAIRING FIRE DAMAGE AT BATHING BEACH(FLOAT)
Mr. Duffy presented a bill for $94.30 from J. Ernest Miller for repairing
fire .damage to the float at the. Bathing Beach and requesting payment of same
from the Contingent.
The hoard discussed this bill and since the money is to be paid by the T~-~urance
Company directly to =he town, they voted to have this bill paid fr~ the .Contingent
Fund and at the same time request a transfer from the R serve Fund to the Contingent
in the amount of $~00. e
PRECINCT OFFZCEaS:
The Board looked over the list fc~ this year and decided ~hat the wardens would
be asked to submit a list of names to replace persons who do not show up at the
polls. A letter will be sent to the chairman of the Republican and the Democratic
parties to see if they have am~ names a~ailable. List will be completed on the
13th of August.
SELECTME~'S RECORDS:
Attorney Arnold H. Salisbury asked for permission to look over the records' of
the Selectmen for the past year and requested that the material he was interested
in, he copied by Mrs. Dearden and sent to his office. This is relative to the
MoKee funeral home. The board voted to allow these records to be typed, .since
all records are public records in the Selectmen,s minutes.
OENTE~ SCHOOL: '
S. Forbes Rock~ell met with the Selectmen to discuss the matter Of the Center
School in connection with the Civil Defense and the Civil Air Patrol.
Mr. Rockwell staSed that Lt. Memo was at camp and Lt. Potter was working 'nights
and could not attend this meeting.
ihs board discussed the matter of responsibility for accidents if. the school were
leased to the C. A. P.
Mr~ ~homeon ~ad 'dr ~a~rn up a lease to be revised if necessary and he Sugge.~ted that
the vote of the Special Tom~ Meeting would continue over a perio~ of.time and then
no article would he. necessary at the Annual Town Meeting. The vote would give the
Selectmen the right to .renew any. lease for any period of tLme.
Mr. :Coffin suggested that the town meeting may not approve the ar~icie unless the
people are sure that Civil Defense will be given par~ of ~he building.
Mr. Rockwell stinted that as far. as responsibility is concerned while there, let it
he considered as if there were no responsibility. Later, if it turns cu~ that there
is ,no responsibility we could see what would happen. He said the C. A. P. is
s~rictly u~l itary and is as aloes as possible to the Army se~-up. He asked if
such a lease would he acceptable to the Selectmen.assume,E there was co~ corporation.
-Mr. Thomson said .he .would he willing to take a chance~ and Mr. Finneran 'thought
this was .a goo~ idea.
Mr.~ Thomson said this whole thing could be determined in two month.~ an~ if the'
C.A.P. is anxious to get in there-would he no need of coal un~il October and if
the 'C.A.P. is serious about taking care of the school by repairing as they have
stated, then mos% of the workkwculd he done. ·
Mr. Rockwell then sta~ed that he would first [ike to take this mat~er up with the
Civil Defense Council end if they agree then he would che~k with the boys and see
if the lease" is agreeable.
Mr. Thomson said .that inview of the feeling of ~he 1Advisory Board with respect to
"Civil Defense, it might be well to discuss this matter with them and Mr. Rockwell
agreed. He wtl] meem again with. the Selectmen on August 13, 19el.

The Board of Selectmen came in' on this day %o sign the b~l~s and payrolls since
there is no regular meeting on August 6, 1951.
