The Board of Selectmen met at 1:30 P.M..to-day, due to the holiday eve falling
on Monday, Dec.31. Bills and payrolls were approved.
TOWN AG COUN'TANT:
~ns Board voted unanimously to re-appoint ~ary T. Finn as town accountant for
a period of, three years, from January 1, 1952 'through December 31, 1954.
LAWRENCE GAS & ELECTRIC COMPANY:
Notice received that seven 1000 lumen incandescent lights were installed on
Turnpike Street on December 8, 1951 on poles, 2556, 2560, 256I, 2563~2566'and
Similarly, two 1000 lumen lights were installed on Tarnpike Street on .poles
2569 and 2570 and were installed on December 8, 1951.
Thirteen 2500 lumen incandescent lights, were installed on Waverley Road on
poles g 461,464,467,469,472,480,483,486,490,494,2094,2115,~ and 3543 and were
turned on December 8, 1951.
Two 15,000 lumen Mercury 7apor lights wereinstalled on poles 2956 and 2978 and
were turned on December 11, 1951.
The following Lights were removed: 1000 lumen light_s on poles 461,464,467~469,
472,480,483,~86,~90~294, 2094 and 2115 on Waverley ~oad, on Dec. 8,1951;
One 2500 lumen incandescent ~ight on pole. 470, .Waverly Rd. removed 12/8/1951.
DEPARTM~IT OF CORPORATIONS AND ~XATION:
Communication received from.Commissioner NeuryF. Long informing thee board that
in compliance with Chapter 41,~ Section 35 of the general laws, he has established
the sum of $46,400 as the amount no less than~which the 1952 of the T~EA~URER of
the town shall be ~written. .......
That the sum of $48,400 as the amount not less than which .the 1952 bond of the
TA¢ COLLECTOR shall be written and enclosed a form to be used to advise him
of the amount which has been set which must not be less than .the amounts stated
above, ~' '
~e Board voted unanimously to'approve the above amounts. '
~RANSFER-I~ESERVE FUND:
Notice received from the Advisory Board that they voted to grant the request of
~he Board of Public ~forks for a transfer of $800 to install a surface drain with
catch basins' on Beverly Street from Harold Street to DA~a Street so as to prevent
damage by erosion' to the newly' constructed playground, kn°wn as Waverly Playground.
This approval was granted on December 26, 1951 after the'AdVisory Board reconsidered
the request which they had previously denied.
WIRING ~NSPECTOR:
The Board voted unanimously to increase th~ salary of the Wiring inspector for 1952
to $500, due to the increased amount of work he has, with inspecting oil burners.
The budget for 1952 will be $500 plus $75.00 for expenses.
~.~ ~he Board voted unanimously to allow the claim of Clayton Towler for damage to
· '.h~is~ taxi, c~us~d by deep ruts in the road, in the amount of $48.90. Mr; Carry
sent a report to the~board and informed them that there were deep ruts on the top
of Sutton Street caused by water draining off 'th~ land there where they~ are building
new houses' and he expects to have an article in the warrant to take care of this
another' year. A release will be signed by Mr. Towler.
LAWRENCE G & E CO.-NEW-~NGLAND T. & T. CO:
A. petition for Joint locations of existing polesWas received and the 'board voted
unanimously to approv~"this petition to locate poles, ~'cires, cables, and fixtures,
on'the easterly side of_ os'~oed Street, from a point ap~r~w, tmataly 100 feet northerly~
from Harkaway Road, northerly, three poles. 'No hearing '~'~ire'd.
DEPARTMENT OF CORPORATION~-TAXATION:
Mr. Maker received ~ letter from Mr. Herman Dine, Assistant Director of Accounts,
advising that in view of the fact thmt the appropriation for Civil Defense is f or
a' specific purpose and can not be considered an 'annually recurring charge, it is
suggested that the balance of SilO0 in the Civil Defe~s~ ap~ropr, iation be carried
forward' to 1952.
This letter follows a telephone conversation with Mr. Dine at which time he stated
that the Civil Defense appropriation could no~ be carried over to 1952, but after
discussing it further, the above letter was sent to 'the treasurer.
SNO~ EMERGENCY:
The Board discussed this matter With the town ~reasurer and Mr. Thomson said he
understood that the bills amounted to over $700 for the first emergency called.
Mr. Maker explained the newest procedure which requires that the Select.men write to
the Director of Accounts for ~ermissien to pay these bills and a copy of their vote
is to be sent to him. the Assessors are then notified be from any
