However, Mr. Thomson stated that under the law, a town is limited to $15,000/$75,OO0. The Board decided there should be $15,000/75,000 bodily injury limits on the school car. 199 JANUARy 28, 19~: The regular weekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at 7:00 P.M. with '~ll members present. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved. PURCHASE OF LAND: ~d, who reside at the corner of Parker St. and Faulkner Road, came before the Board to find out if they could buy from the town a small piece of land in order to square off their own lot. The land in question is that which was acquired last year from the Steven's Estate. Mr. Lord stated that he was wiliing to pay 10S per foot. Mr. Coffin contacted Mr. Kittredge of the School Building Committee and the latter felt it would be wise for Mr. Lord to "sit tight" for now until the School Building Committee had more definite plans as to this particular piece of land. Mr. Coffin suggested that Mr. Lord approach the School Building Committee relative to this matter. ESSEI. COUNTY DOG OFFICER: -ommunicaion rom t e ~oun:y Dog Officer requesting that he be notified immediately in all cases of damage exceeding Three Hundred Dollars. The Board vo~ed to refer this ~o Mr. Dolan, the Dog Officer. DOG OFFICER: ~of the Dog Officer for the year 1951 was submitted'to the Board this evening. JURORDRAWN: ~ drawn by Mr. Finnaran to serve at Superior Civil Court, .Salem, on March 3, 1952. David Long was drawn first but since he has already been drawn, another Juror was drawn and the Juror was Sam Bottemley, 59 Herrick Road, Retired. POLLING HOI~S: y~e before the Board to discuss polling hours for the primary elections. Mr. Lyons also s~ated that four years ago, there were only 192 votes cast at these elections and he felt that this was an unnecessary expense to the town ~o have all prebincts in operation with only these few votes being case. There was some discussion about this and the Board decided that only the Fire Station and Stevens Hall would be used and the polling hours would be from 12:00 noon to 8:00 P.M. for the primary elections. The Board also decided that the polling hours for the town election would be from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. Permission was requested by the Law. Gas & Elec. Co. to install ~emporary purge pipes in connection with the conversion to natural gas; these purge pipes will be removed after' the conversion to natural gas: Waverly Road near Marga~e Street; Prospec~ Street approximately 300' south of Chadwick Street; Tn%land Road approximately 300' north of Turnpike Street and Pembrook Road near Mifflin Drive. The Board voted unanimously that the bonds (in the amount of $50 each, total $100) posted in relation to Putnam Road, be released. PLANNING BOARD- ~otice received from the Planning Board that a Public Hearing would be held on on 2/4/52 a% 8:00 P.M. on the application of Sutton Hill Company, Inc., requesting the approval of the final plans by the Board for the extension of Heath Road for approximately 475 feet from its intersection with Sutton Hill ~Road to Johnson Street and the revocation of the approval of Sutton Hill Road from its intersection with Heath Road to Johnson Street as per plans submitted to the Board. Co. to reduce the par value of its outstanding shares and proposal to issue its original capital stock to raise a portion of the proposed purcbask price for the gas assets of Law. Gas &Elec. TRkEREL~VAL HEARING: . ~, A hearing was 'held on the request of G. Longbottom, Commonwealth Avenue, for the removal of a tree. Mr. Conners, the T~ee Warden, said that the tree was interfering with the house sewer. The Board Voted unanimously that permission be gra~ted. LA~ICE GAS& E~ECTRIC' CO.-HEARING: A hearing was'held on the request of the above company for permission to lobate,poles, Az wires and fixtures on the southerly side of Turnpike St., at ooints approximately'2~;~' feet and 995 feet easterly from ToLland Road, 2 poles. The bol~rd voted unanimously to grant this petition. Father Vincent McQuade came in after the hearing and asked that the Gis Company officials telkwith him before installing the poles in the. above petition~so.that no change will have to be made later on. ~e boa~d agreed on this. CIVIL S~RVICE: Confirmation received from Thomas' J. Greehan relative to Miss Persis .Richardson coming to North Andover to give~informationwith reference ~o the placing ~under .civil service of the official and labor service of the' ~own. .RECREATIONAL COUNCIL RESIGNATION: ~he resignation of William Smith was submitted to the board on this day. Mr. Smith thanked the bma~d for the amicable relations experienced in the past. ~he Board felt that they wo~ld like bo see M~. Smith before accepting the resignation $o see ~f he would continue as a member of this council and the resig:mtion was tabled for one week. PRECINCT OFFICEBS: The Board discussed the t~o appointments to be made in Precinct three caused by the deaths of Charles Pitman and Catherine Cain. After some discussion }.~. Coffin felt that the Board 6f registrars should make the recommendations for these appoint- ments. !Ar. Thomson felt that the board should ask the Board of Registrars for their recommendations as ~o the hames of existing persons employed on the list who could be elevated to Deputy' Warden and Clerk and then the Selectmen would ac~ on the' recommend- ation. The other appointments would then be made from the names now available. The ~wo members agreed with this suggestion and the Board of Registrars will be con- tacted and asked to make their recommendations for next Monday evening.. ~Changed upon instruction fro~ Mr. Thomson on ~/28/52, as he w~s informed by t~.e~.G&E, that ~ the correct figure ~s 295' and not 2~0' as was state~ on their orig~na~application.
