HomeMy WebLinkAbout1952-03-10 Board of Selectmen Minutes206 MARCH 10, 1952: continUed TREASURER,S BOND- TAX COLLECTOR,S BOND: The Bond for the Treasurer in the amoun% of $46,400 and for the Tax Collector in the amoun~ of $~8,400 were approved by the board and given to the town clerk to be filed. RE-ORGANIZATION OF BOARDS: The Board of Selec'~men re-organized at this time and Mr. Finneran made a motion that ' ~ .ur . .omson be 're-appointed chairman for the ensuing year. Motion was seconded by Mr. Coffin and was declared a unanimous vote. Mr.. Coffin made a'motion that Mr. Finneran be re-appointed clerk of the Board of Selectmen,. which was.. seconded by Mr. ~homson and declared a unanimous vote. The License Board re-organized at this time. Mr. Coffin made a motion that Mr. Finneran be appointed chairman of the board, which was seconded by Mr. Thomson and declared a unanimous vote. Mr.. Thomson made a motion that Andrew Coffin be re-appointed clerk of the board, seconded by Mr. Fiuneram and declared unanimous vote. BOARD OF PUBLIC ~¥~FARE ~re-organized. Mr. Fl4neran made a motion that Andrew Coffin be re-appointed chairman of the Board of Pablic Welfare., seconded by Mr. Thomson and declared unanimous vote. Mr. Taomson made a motion that Joseph M. Finneran be re-appointed clerk of the board and seconded by Mr. Coffin. Declared a majority vote, Mr. Finneran not voting. The FolloWing appointments were made by the Board of SelecUmen: SUPT. STREET LIGHTS: A~request for information as to whether or no% a street light had been installed on · Turnpike Street at the By-pass since October 1950. This was checked and no lights have' been~ im~talled at this location since October 1950 and Mr. J~.cob W. Shinberg, atty, 54 Merrimack St. Haverhill, was so notified. STEVENS HALL: A bill 'fo?' $100 was approved for payment by the board for plastering the' ceiling but Mr. Cushing will be notified~ to contact the Selectmen in the future before requesting such work to be dome. ARTTCLES-ANNUAL WAP~ANT- Mr. Coffin stated that he would like to see that bids are called for when the new police car is purchased. He felt that since the Police Department came under this board they should know something about it. He then made a motion to instruct.the Chief of Police ~o call for bids for the purchase of a police car and that the bids be left at the Selectmen's Office to be opened publicly, contingent upcn favorable.vote of the appropriation. The. board vo~ed unanimously on this motion. Mr. 'Coffin said he still felt that the board should take a szand as' opposing Article 18, with reference to intermittent police being placed under Civil Service and increasing the number of Reserves :o 14. Mr. Thomson felt that the board could express their feelings at the town meeting. Mr. Coffin felt that the board should express their feeling whether it appears necessary or not. The idea of such a stand would be ~o ~ersuade people no% to vote on this article. No further action was taken and the matter will be discussed at' the anndal town mc.'~ting, if necessary.
