Mr. Sutcliffe motioned Mr. Alexander Winwnrd, Jr., be eppointed, seconded by Mr. Ftnneran ahd voted unanimous. The board dirccted the appointees and the commission be so-advised. STREET LTGHT SURVEY The board directed the electric compa~.y be requested to conduct'a survey for improved street lighting in the vicinity of 141 Rea Street, residence of Mrs. Fred Spencer. B~DGETS Copies of the budgets for 1960 ~.;ore presentcd the board for signatures. February 8, 1960 The Board of Selectmen met on this date with all members present and ~-irman Ralph E. Finck presiding. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P.N. J~ROR DRAWN John J. Lyons, Town Clerk, appeared before the board for the drawing of a Juror for the March 7, 1960 sitting cf Sale~ Superior Court, Civil business. Mr. Sntcliffe drew the name of Joseph A..~c-~th, 84 Main Street, Clark in Phalmu's Grocery Store. The board later determined that since Mr. S~Lth is a Constable h~ is not eligible for Jury se~-vlce. A Juror to replace Mr. Smith will be dra~n nex~o Nonday evening. HEAP.TNG - Pole Location Mr. Casey, representative of New England Tel. & Tel. CO., appeared at the hearing on the Joint petition of the utility compan~ms for the location of two poles on Abbott Street. Mr. Calzetta, au abutter, was also present. Mr. Case¥ explained the proposed location. No disapproval was vciced~ Upon motion of Mr. Fimneran, seconded by Mr. Sutcliffe and voted unanimous, permission was granted. NEPJLIMACK STREET - Sunday parking Mr. Fred Oakes of Merrimack Street appeared before the board to request action be taken to make Merrimack Street parking on one side only, on the left side from Water St. to Main St. Mr · Fianeran~ motioned the Chief of Police Be requested to place '~¢o Parking".signs on the right side of Nerrimack Street from Water St. to Main St. between 8:00 A.M. an~ 12:00 Noon on Sundayts. Mr. Sutcl~*fe seconded the motion and the vo~e was SGT. A. ROUGHTC~ FARNNAM - Resignation Chairman Finck stated formal resignation as Sergeant in the Police Depart- meat had been received from Sgt. A' Houghton Famham, a~ suggested the board go on.record as congratulating Sgt. Faruham upon his retirement and. · commending him for his thirty~three years of excellent service in the Ncrth Andover Police Department. Mr. Sutcliffe made this a motion adding that Sgt. Farmhem be so-advised. Mr. Fiuneran seconded the motion and the vo~e DEPARTMENT GFPUBLIC WORES - Stop signs ChaLrmanFinck read letter from the Department of Public Works advising that stop signs had been approved at the intersection of Greene Street and Mass- ach~setts Avenue, and that since Mass. Ave. is State Highway the D.P.W. would assume the responsibility of the installation. The letter was unanimously accepted. LAWRENCE AIRPORT CC~MISSION - Rem--al of Trees A letter from Mr. Paley, Engineer .' ~r the Lawrence Airport Commission, rel- ative to the removal of trees at the airport, was tabled until such time as the board could consult with John J. Conners, Tree Warden, concerning the matter. WOODSTOCK STREET EXTENSION - David Anderson A letter from the Lynn Five Cents Savings Bank, addressed to Mr. Duffy, Sup't. of Public Works, and referred to the Beard of Selectmen for in- formation relative to the assignment and bank book filed with the Town by Mr.. David Anderson in connection with the Woodstock Street Extension, was read by the Chairman. The board directed information from the files of the Selectmen be forwarded as requested. February 8, 1960 - continued: LAWRENCE GAS COMPANY P~UEST Upon motion of Mr. Finneran seconded by Mr. Sutcliffe and votedunanimous, the Lawrence Gas company was granted permission to excavate 46 feet in street at 200 Osgood Street to install gas service for Mr. Warren Berthel. LAWRENCE GAS C~tPANYREQUEST Upon motion of Mr. Sutclif~e seconded by'Mr. Finneran and voted unanimous, permissionwas granted the Lawrence Gas Company to excavate on Salem Street to install gas service for Mr. Vincent Rcdden. CIVIL D~ENSE AGENCY A letter from the Mass. Civil Defense Agency relative to Home Preparedness Day on March 7, 1960, was accepted by the board. The board agreed every effort would be made to perpare homes in backing a program for such in this community. GO~ERNOR"S RECEPTION- Hall ofF lags Upon receipt of an invitation from Govarnor Furculo to attend a reception on February 22 at lO:O0 A.M. in the Hall of Flags, State Mouse, the board voted they would make every effort ~o attend. ADVISORY BOARD The Board of Selectmen met with the AdvisoryBoard t~ discuss budgets and articles of the 1960Warrant comnectedwlth the office of the Board of Selectmen. NEETING ADJOURNED Upon motion of Mr. Finneran seconded by Mr. S~tcl~e and voted unanimous, this meeting adjourned at 8:30 P.M. (L. McD. ) February 15, 1960 The Board of Selectmen met on this date with all members present and Chairman Ralph E. Finck presidin~. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P.M. JURORS DRAWN John J. Lyons, Town Clerk, appeared before the board for the re-drawing.of a Juror to replace Mr. Joseph Smith who was drawn last week end is in- eligible to serve. Mr. Sutcliffe drew the name Mr. Hugh Stewart of 62 Elm Street, retired Boston & Maine Railroa~ employee, to serve at.Salem Superior Churt, civil business, on March 7, 1960. Mr. Fiuneran drew the name Mrs Katherine Finn, 22 Saunders Street, housewife~ to serve at Salem. Superior Court, crimminal business, on March 7, 1960. AIRPORT CC~NISSION Chairman Finck read letter from the Airport Commission to Atty. Charles Wo Trombly relative to the well field location. Mr. Fiuneran motioned the letter be accepted for the files. Mr. Sutcliffe seconded the motion and the vote~was unanimous. RESIGNATION- Personnel Board Chairman Finck read letter from Vincent C. Curcio submitting his resignation from the Personnel Board effective February l3, 1960. Mr. Sutcliffe motioned the resignation be accepted with regret. Mr. Fiuneren secended the motion and the vo~e was unanimous. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS - Stop Signs The board accepted a permit from the Department cf Public Works for stop signs at. the intersection of Greene Street and Massachusetts Avenue. Sinc~ Mass. Ave. is state highway, the D.P.W. will install the signs. AIRPC~T CC~ISSION Chairman Finck read report of Airport Commission meetin~ of February 1 as. submitted by Dr. Zimny. Mr. Sutcliffe motioned a letter be sent Dr. Ztmny- stating board appreciation of his perfecb attendance at the meetings and excellent reports on same. Mr. Finneran seconded the motion and the vote LAWRENCE AIRPORT - Clark Street Mr. Sutcliffe stated he had received several, complaints on the condition of Clark. Street due to construction work in the airport area, and that he had called Mr. Kirkman who had assured him the matter would be taken care of immediately. Mr. Finck suggested a letter be sent to the Mayor of Lawrence and the Airport Comission e~pressing board dissatisfaction with the con-
