The Board of Selectmen met on this date with all members present and
presiding.
Chairman Finck
LAWRENCE GAS CC~PANY:
A petition for excavation from the Lawrence Gas Companz on Pleasant Streete was ap-
proved unanimously upon motion of Mr. Sutcliffe and seconded by Mr. Finneran.
LAWP~NCE GAS COMPANY:
A petition for excavation from the Lawrence Gas Company, on Francis Street, was
approved unanimously upon motion of Mr. Sutcliffe and seconded by Mr. Finneran.
SNO~ R~MOVAL EE~RGENCIES:
Approval was received from Director of Accounts Herman B. Dine for payment of
liabilities incurred recently from two snow and ice removal emergencies in the
total amount of $16.564.43.
TREE R~NOVAL PETITION:
The Selectmen have been petitioned for the removal of two trees on Main Street
by John Shea of Elmcrest Estates. Said trees have been duly posted. Public hearing
will be held on January 23, 1961, at 7:30 p.m. upon motion of Mr. Sutcliffe, seconded
by Mr. Finneran, and voted unanimously.
GRADE CROSSING - MARBL~EAD STREET:
A letter and plans have been received from E. J. McCarthy, Chief Engineer, of the
Department of Public Works, regarding the establishment of a grade crossing at
Marblehead Street in a new location necessitated by the proposed Interstate Route
495. The letter also stated that since the present crossing is not on a town way,
the petition will be for a new crossing instead of for an alteration.
B.& M. RAILROAD:
A letter was received from Democratic State Committeeman of the Fifth Essex District,
William J. Donovan, regarding the deplorable conditiansat the Boston and Maine
Railroad station in Lawrence and also the fact that the 8:05 a.m. train is almost
invariably ten minutes to an hour late. He requested we contact both the Depart-
merit of Public Utilities and the Boston & Maine 'to demand that the conditions
mentioned be corrected. Notion was made to write both parties by Mr. Finneran,
seconded by Mr. Sutcliffe, and voted unanimously.
WIDE~ING OF OSGOOD STREET:
A copy of a letter from E. J. McCarthy, Chief Engineer of the Department of Public
Works was received, original cf which had been sent to Western Electric Company, Inc.
It stated that the D.P.W. is aware of the fact that serious traffic conditions will
be encountered during the construction period in the future widening of Osgood
Street and that he, Mr. McOarthy~ is of the belief that a review for handling the
traffic should await the development of further engineering plans for tNs project.
He stated that these plans would undoubtedly indicate ~the possibilities of re-
routing traffic along various sections of the project, and also yield factual in-
formation on which to proceed.
BOARD OF APPEALS HEA~ENG:
Notice was received from the Board of Appeals whereby it stated that a public hear-
i~g will be held on January23, 1961, at 8:00 P.M. on the appeal of Sherwood Homes,
Inc., requesting a variation of the Zoning ByLaw-locatiom at East side of Patriot
Street, at the corner of Sargent Street.
Upon motion of Er. Finneran, seconded by Mr. Sutcliffe, and voted unanimously, the
meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m. A Special Town Meeting was held at the North
Andovar High School at 8:00 p.m.
