LA, FRaNCE GAS COMPANY:
A petition for excavation from the Lawrence Gas Company was approved unanimously
upon motion of Mr. Finck, seconded by Mr. Sutcliffe, for repair of a gas leak at
Waverly Road corner of Turnpike Street.
TOWN TREASURER:
James Maker, Town Treasurer, appeared before the Board in order to have his bond
for $51,200.00 approved and signed by the Board. This was done upon motion of
Mr. Ftnck, seconded by Mr. Sutcliffe, and voted unanimously.
INSPECTOR FOR GAS APPLIANCES:
Town Clerk John Lyons asked the Board about appointment of an inspector for gas
appliances and gas piping, under Chapter 737, Acts of 1960. Mr. Finck said that
such would have to come before a special town meeting. The Board asked Mr. Lyons
to notify~ the authorities that the directive arrived too late to be included at
the next Town Meeting of March 18th, and advise us as to future action.
TO~ COUNSEL OPINION---Unaccepted Streets:
A letter was road from Town Counsel regarding ~e town's responsibility for un-
accepted streets. This was pzecipiteted by a letter to Town Counsel from us be-
cause of complaints from,~a resident of Woodstock Street on February 27th. Upon
motion of Mr. Sutcliffe, seconded by Mr. Finneran, it was voted unanimously to
se~d a letter to Mr. Nicholas Kypriotis informing him that Mr. Carty will be
asked to determine what repairs are necessary, with copy of letter going to Mr. Carty.
A letter was received from the Commissioner of Public Works, Jack P. Ricciardi, re-
garding Interstate 495, in which he stated that the Department presently proposes to
record the land taking in the latter part of April.
OSGOOD AND SUTTC~ STREETS:
A letter was received from Town Counsel regarding the' Osgood Street drainage problem
and also a copy of a letter sent to Mr. Salisbury from the Department of Public Werks
~egardtng same. There was a drainage ditch in the area ~hich had been blocked wi~h
material from the construction work. on the adjacent property which had been clesued,
thus alleviating the drainage condition in that particular area for the time being.
POST OFFICE DEPT.:
A letter was received from the Assistant to the Postmaster General regarding our
interest in s postage stamp in honor of Samuel Osgood, the first postmaster general,
stating that the request ~uld be brought to the attention of the new Stamp Advisory
Committee to be established in the near future.
BOARD OF APPEALS:
Ch ~airman Finneran read a letter from Norman Hughes requesting appointment to the
Zoning Board of Appeals, Mr. Sutcliffe motioned to take the matter under advisement,
secOnded by Mr. Finck, and voted unanimously.
The meeting ad~Journed at 8:15 p.m.
A Snow Removal Emergency was declared by the Board of Selectmen at 9:30 a.m. on
Narch 14, 1961.

NEETING- Re: Osgoed Street Widening
Mr. N. F. MacWi3_~lams, District Highway Engineer, and Mr. Carlisle Levine, Engineer,
both from the Dept. of Public Works appeared in order to discuss the widening of
Osgood Street with abutters. They stated that the highway, apprpximately 14~ miles
· 'in length, would consist of two 12-foot travelled lanes and two 10-foot paved
shoulders, for a total width of 44 feet. The width at the present time is about
thirty feet. The road widening will begin near the intersection of Osgood and
