The regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on this date with all
members present and Chairman Finneran.presiding
'HEARING: Tree Removal Petition --Three trees
Mr. John Connors, Tree Warden, was in attendance, stating that the three trees
which had been duly posted, had been petitioned for removal by William Somerville,
91 Chadwick Street. Mr. Somerville wishes to build a garage and driveway and said
trees must be removed for said reason. Mr. Finck motioned they be removed,
seconded by Mr. Satcliffe, and vote~ unanimously.
DRAWING OF JUROR:
Town Clerk Lyons had Mr. Finck draw a juror. The following was drawn: Francis
Rivet, 72 Turnpike Street, New England Tel. & Tel. Co. employee. He will be a
juror at Superior Criminal Court to be held at Salem on May 15th.
CIVIL SERVICE: Sealer of Weights and Measures
A letter was read by Chairman Finneran from the D~viston of Civil Service ~tereby
the Board was informed that under the provisions of the civil service law, the
position held by Ernest J. Roberts has been classified and the seniority date of
his service in said position is April 1, 1960. It also stated that Mm. Roberts
will be recorded as holding a position in the classified civil service under the
title and with the seniority date aforementioned. Notice of the examination will
be sent to him as soon as the schedule of their Examimation Bureau permits and
'that we .will be not~fied of the results.
D.P.U. HEARING: In re Trombly Motor Coach Service
A notice was received informing the Board that a public hearing will be held on
May 16, 1961, at the State House, regarding the petition of Francis J. Trombly
d~/a Trombly Motor Coach Service for determination by the Department of Public
Utilities that public convenience and necessity require the operation of motor
vehicles for the carriage of passengers for hire over routes in various conmmni-
ties including North Andover. As Nr. Fimck stated, said petition was approved
locally already. Mr. Finck motioned that the Board make every effort to attend
the hearing., seconded by Mr. Sutcliffe, and voted unanimously, it was also voted
unanimously to convey the sentiments of the Board to the D.P.U. as being in favor
of the operation.
REOISTRYOF MOTOR V~tICLES:
A form letter was received from the Registry of Motor Vehicles stating that the
Massachusetts Highway Safety Co,u,~ttee voted at their meeting of April 25th to
send aletter to all state and local officials involved, urging that in awarding
~contracts for highway construction and repairs, a provision be included requiring
the~ contractor to maintain the normal flow of traffic. Mr. Finck motioned that
copies oft he letter be sent to theBoard of Public Works.and the Highway Depart-
merit. Mr. Sutcliffe seconded the motion, and it was voted unanimously.
CE OiL CO.':
A letter wns received from Cyr Oil Company stating that the re4ant .005 per gallon
decrease is a seasonal allowance and not a drop in B.T.C. price.
MERRIMACK-ESSEX EL~ETRIC CO.: Boston Street
A letter was received stating that a 3500 lumen mercury vapor street light was
installed on pole 3262, Boston Street, on April 27th.
t~LINk. CK-ESSEX ELECTRIC CO.: Saunders Street
A letter was received stating that a 3500 lumen mercury vapor light was installed
on Saumders Street on April 21st.
MERRIMACK-ESSEX ELECTRIC CO.: Chadwick Street
Merrimack-Essex Electric Company performed a street lighting survey, as requested
by thisUBoard, on Chadwick Street, with the recommendation of the installation:.of
ten 7,000 lumen mercury vapor lights to replace the six 1,000 lights shown on the
sketch enclosed. Mr. Finck motioned that the Board view the area with Mr. Chapman
to determine the necessity for the street lighting, seconded by Mm. Sutcliffe, and
voted unanimously.
PRISON INDUSTRtESMEETING:
A notice of a ~rison Industries Meeting to be held on May 17th at Framingham was
received by the Board. It was agreed to request Chief Lawlor ~o attend the meet-
ing to represent the Board, if agreeable with him.
