HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961-09-18 Board of Selectmen MinutesThe regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on this date at 7:30 P.M. with all members present and Chairman Finneran presiding. Hearing: 7:30 P.M. 2 written bids were received on repairing of windows in the Town Building in response to the legal notice placed in the Lawrence-Eagle Tribune on Friday, September 15, 1961. 1. Frank DeRosa, 174 Water Street, North Andover, Mass. - $450.00 2. Earl A. Pomerleau, North Andover, Mass. - $57~ .00. A motion was made by Mr. Sutcliffe and seconded by Mr. PLuck, voted unanimously by Chairman Finneran that the lower bid be accepted subject to the assurance that Mr. DeRosa was properly insured and licensed. Lawrence Gas Light Company: Permission was voted unanimously be the Board of Selectmen for excavations to be made on Elmwond, Rosedale and Cotuit Streets. Also on 415 Andover Street with the stipulation that the road be left in the same condition as it is now. Office of County Engineer: Re: Marblehead Street ~.R. Crossing, 0598 Letter was received from Ass't County Engineer, James R. Carlin with his recommendation the Board send s petition to the Department of Public Utilities to facilitate the matter of having Marblehead Street made a public way. Motion by Mr. Sutcliffe, seconded by Mr. Finck and made unanimous by Chairman Finneran~ to.-send in said petition was made,~ petition signed and sent as advised. Massachusetts Selectmen's Association: Invitations were received and accepted by the Board of Selectmento attend the annual meeting att he New Ocean House, Swampscott, Mass., on October l2, 13, and l4th. Massachusetts Department of Public Works: Letter was received in regards to large depression on Massachusetts Avenue, North Andover. The Board was advised that said depression would' be investigated and necessary repairs Airport Commission: lissom officer, Doctor Zimney, Letter sent by Airport Commission/advising Board of Selectmen of executive meeting held on pertinent matters. Selectman Finck made a motion, seconded by Mr. Sutcliffe, voted unan- imous by Chairman Einneran that the.liason officer be notified in the future when a meet- is to be held as he is supposed to be present at every meeting. A letter was sent to ~at effect. : Civilian Defense: Letter received from Civil Defense Director, Mr. *Dewey A. Dyer, with request that the week of September 25th be proclaimed "Individual and Family Civil Defense Prepardness Week'~ The motion was made, seconded and voted that the Director's sugestioms be carried out by the Board. Massachusetts Group Insurance Commission: Letternotf_~g Board of Public Hearing, October 4, 1961 at Gardner Auditorium, State House, Boston, Mass. Motion was made by Mr. Sutctiffe, Mr. Finck seconded it and the vote mede unamimons that the Board make every effort to attend. Thomson School Parent Teachers Association: Invitation was extended the Board of Selectmentto be members of a discussion panel at a meeting, January 4, 1962. on various subjects of civic interest. The Board of Selectmen votedunanimously to accept the invitation. David H. Evans: Mr. David Evans, 544 Johnson Street, North Andover, appeared before the Board and presented for com~deration a problem regarding excessive discharging of firearms in the vicinity of Johnson snd Rea Streets. A motion made by Mr. Finck, seconded by Mr. Sutcliffe and voted Unanimously ~or Chairman Finneran to request Police Department to conduct an immediate investigation and report; end if the safety and welfare of the town citizens are endangered, proper police action be taken.
