Department of Public Works:
Board of Selectmen were informed by the Board of Public Works that snow piling in the vic-
inity of Turnpike Street and Waverly Road would be eliminated in the future and the sidewalks
kept clear for the children Wsitiflgtfor the 2ms.
A complaint about a tree whose roots were clogging her se~er was registered by Nrta. H. Wi21tems
Tree Warden Lafend was requested to investigate the matter and to report to the Board at the
next meeting.
BOSTON HiLL SKI
The complaint of Er. Allen regarding the noise made by the Boston Ski Tow while making
artificial enow was heard by the Board. Mr. Dorm stated they had been making artifical
enow for four years ~nd had not received any complaints up until now. He also stated the
noise must have been caused when the equipment broke down end they were making temporary
He also stated that he would purchase a muffler end seek further advice from a Boston enghneer-
ing firm as regards the extermination of the excessive noise. He will repor.t back at the
SelecH~en~s meeting on Monday, February 12, 1962. ~hief Police Lawlor was also requested to
investigate traffic t~e-ups on Sunday on Route 114 in front of. the ski-tow caused by pedestrian
crossings and sight-seeing autoists.
PLAI~ROUND - AIRPORT LAND:
Letters were received from the Board from Senators Saltonstall end BenjaminI Smith re playEround
releases from FAC. Plan has to be drawn up by Charles Cyr and forward to the 'Commission.
00UNTY CONMZSSIONERS:
Letter re Rabies Vaccine and Serum Notice received by the Board and referred to the s~
inspector, Dr. Edward C.Bulger and the Board of Health, and the Dog ~fficer.
Nass. Selectmen's Association:
Letter received re meetings on Legislative Hearings end Com~tte on Education. Mr. Phelen, Nr.
Finneren, end Er. Bennon, C ommittee, were urged to make everFeffert to attend.
SCO~TING:
Letter sent by Explore Post 83 announcing that Boy Scout Week would be February 7 to 13th. The
Selectmen were asked permission for selected scouts to sit in end act on the Board en the
Nonday Meeting of that week so a better understsnding of our Amaricen heritage .and res-
ponsibilities as well as rights of ~merican citizens. Esplorors Daniel O. Day, P~bert H.
Friis and John H. Robintom were elected to serve as Sel ectmem on February 12th, 1962.
FIRE (~IEF DAW:
Chief Daw submitted a group of revised rules of the ~lre Department that had taken five years
to accomplish. They were epprove~ by the Board of Selectmen and sent to Town Counsel.
Jmnes Maker, treasurer, submitted his report for 1961 which was rec~ivod~am~ approved by the
Board ·
The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 P.N.

The regular meeting of the Beard of Selectme~ was held on this date at 7:30 P.M. with all
members present, Chairman Finneren presiding, together with three honorary (Boy Scout) member
Town Clerk, John J. Lyons "sware in" the e~lore~selectmen end then proceeded to bring in a
boxful of names from which that of Willim~ ~. Z~aIder, 30 Annis Street, was dra~n as'Juror
for civil business in the Superior Court in Lawrence on March ~, 1962.
ATTY. JC~N ~'iLLIS AND RIGtARD G.HALTNAIER:
The above-mentioned parties were concerned lest the second question on this year~s ballot con-
cerning veteran highway surveyor, Ira D. Carry, whose office would he abolished six months
after the successful passing of the question, would not be returned in' time to make the
warrant. The .question is no~ before the State Legislature. If the Legislature did not return
the bill in time for inclusion on th~ ballot, there would be nothing to vote on, thereby ren-
dering the article in the warrant en unnessary precaution after all, and was itlegal? The
Board voted to refer the legality of the matter to to~m counsel as soon as possible and to
notify the two men .
Boston Hill Ski Tow Complaint:
John Livesey, hezg of the s~i-tow's ski patrol, representing the Hill's manager, Mr. Dunn,
was ill, reported tham a muffler had been placed on the compressor during artifical
and tha~ a new and quieter compressor, complete with suitable muffler was to be delivered to
