The regular meeting of the Board of Selectman was held on this date at 7:30 p.m. with all
members present, Chairman Finneran presiding:
Hearings: from
Bids were received~Shawsheen Motor Mart on Two police cruisers; from Lowell Mot&r Sales and
Gibbs Motor Company on a Tree Department Truck. Lowell Motor Sales was awarded the' contract
for the latter and Shawsheen Motor Mart the contract for the two cruisers. ~e cruisers will
cost $3,400 with two police car trede-ins and the tree department truck will cost $5,972.
HOUSE MOVING PETITIONS:
~~24 Appleton Street, was granted permission to move 2 houses; one, from Bruce
to Glanwood Street and one from Buuce Street to Fernwood Street.
Petitions to moves houses were received also from ~ 172 Park St., Lawrence, to move
a 2-tanement house at lO1 Massachusetts Avenue to Inglewood Street~ Mr. Fred E, Kellans, 90
Main Street, petitioned for permission to m ore a house from Colonial ace, wrance _o 9
Lincoln Street~ North Audover. Both were taken under advisement until reports from all depart-
ments concerned were received.
APPOINTMENTS:
John J. Thompson was appointed unanimously Wire Inspector for the year and the following School
Crossing Guards were appointed by the. Board for one year;

The appointment of two reserve police officers to the permanent status was t~abl~ pending
interviews with each of the four men eligible from Civil Service List. They'are~as followa:
· ~Daniel Quinl~n, Charles Ntcosia, William NcNahon and James Lustenberger. The~ imterviewa will
:.take place at 7:00:?p.m. on Monday, April 9, 1962. "~
According to a letter received from the Director of Public Health and Charities, ~.lderman
Guilmette, the nuisance from the city of Lawrence dump will be abated in the future. He showed
in his letter that certain precautionary measures were to be practiced at all times or he would
suspend any or all who neglected to do so. in regards to fires at the dump.
MERR]Y~CK-ESSE"/~LECTRIC COMPANY:
Letter received stating that the above-named company has installed street.lights on. Hillside Rd.
and Campbell Streets.. They were granted permission to install joint pole locations with the
telephone company on Woodstock Street and Sutton Hill Road.

The Selectman were advised that the bus route to the Elderly Housing Development had been' ·
temporarily rerouted from Davis Street and East Water Street to Elm S.treet. ~he~a~ager ·
stated that only 7 passangers'took edvantage of the route in one week; the streets had be-~
~come impassable; and great, potantial danger to the children of Davis and East %~ater Streets,
~h~'ch are very narrow, during the coming summer months were the deciding factors for-the re-
routing. Selectmen Oakes 'suggested that the Elderly Housing Project residents be consulted as
to their wishes regarding the bus route.
PORTER & DESMONDRE DINER ON OSGOOD STREET:
Mr. Porter stated that the Diner on Osgood Street would be moved shortly toBeverly, Mass., and
the only itamdelaying the departure was a permit fromthe ~tate. The BOard requested that
be notified when the Diner was moved.
