April 23, 1962.
The regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on this dste at 7:30 p.m. with all
members present, Chairman Finneran presidi~g~~
FARRELL COMPLAET:
The Board of Selectmen read the various reoorts from the Fire, Police, Health and Building
~nspector regarding the illegal use of the Ferrell property for uninhibited dumping of various
unsightly materials making an unsightly mess of the surrounding land. In addition, the .Police
Chief submitted pictures of said property and said he would think it s mat~er for the Board of
Health. Mr. Farrell, wrote Chief Daw of the Fire Department, was endeavoring to cover the
debris, had bull-dozers working, and had erected a 'tlo Trespassing., sign per order of the Se!e~
men to prevent further dumping. The Selectmen stated that they would revisit the Farrell
property in two weeks to view what progress had been mad e by Mr. Farrell in correcting the
mees and, at that time, Selectman Broadhead suggested s time limit should be set for com-
pletion of same.
RESIGNATIC~: School Crossing Guard:
Mrs. Florence Bush, reserve school crossing gusrd tendered her resignation as such which was
accepted with regret by the Selectmen and a letter of appreciation amd thanks ~for her services
was directed to be sent to her. The Board stated that they would interview candidates for the
three open School Guerd positions at next Monday night's meeting..at Z:30 p.m., April 30th.
JUROR:
Mr. Albert Haltmaier, 271 Stevens Street, was chosen from names ('in a capsule) submitted by
Town Clerk, John J. Lyons, to serve on the Criminal Jury in the Superior Court, at Salem, in
the May Session.
MERRIMACK VALLEY MOTOR
Mr. Harry Mellian, financial manager of the motel, appeared before the Selectmen with Building
Inspector, Charles Foster, to discuss the motel sign to be placed before the Inn in 'advertise-
ment. The Board said they would take a week to consider issuing the permit to be certazn
would not interfere or annoy any residents in the vicinity. The sign would be 18 feet wide and
32 feet high.
ROLLING KITCH~¢: MARKEY.

Mr. Lawrence F. Markey, proprietor of s mobile kitche~rnequesting that a stipulation on his
Common Victuler license be cancelled. The stipulation called for a police officer be stationed'
in the area while Mr. Markey's Kitchen serviced employees of Western Electric Company. He
said the service would be too expensive. The Selectmen reserved their decision in the
matter for one week; they would consult with the Chief of Police.
INVITATICNS: NORTH ANDOVER POLICE RELIEF ASSOCIATIC~: _ "'
Gracious ~nvitations were issued the three Satectmen and their wives; and to the S~lectmen's
Secretary. All would make every effort to attand.the annual Police Dance and Entertainment.

light company notified the Board of 2 21,000 lumen light installations, both on East Water
Street.
LAWR~{CE GAS LIGHT COMPANY:
Two petitions to excavate on Greanhill Avenue and Mablin, Iuglewood Avenue was granted by the
Board of Selectmen.
NORTHEAST AIRLINES:
Northeast Airlines sent the Board a copy of letter dispatched to the Civil Aeronautics Board in
Washington, D.C. stating they would not take action relative to their April 29th quitting date
at the Lawrence Municipal airport until they heard from the CAB.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
