and fixtures, on the southerly side of Nain Street, at a point approximately 101
fee~ westerly from Russell Street, 1 pole. ('~o existing J.O. Pole Locations ~o be
abandoned). ~be Board voted to hold a hearing ~n this application on October 27,
1952 a~ 8:00 P.~.
AMERICAN LEGZON:
~gion, Post #219, invited the Board ~o a~end the Installation of
Officers on Monday evening, October 20, 1952 at 8:00 p.N. in the Legion Home. The
Board voted ~o accept this invitation with thanks and make an effort to attend.
OCTOBER 20, 1952:
~ly meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at 7;00 P.M. with all
members present. %~eekly bills and payrolls were approved.
~ REMOVAL HEARINGS:
A hearing was held a~ 7:30 P.M. on the petition of Robert I. ~?inter, 142 Green Street,
for the removal of a ~reewhich is blocking his driveway. Mr. Conners checked on this
tree and informed the board that it should be removed. A motion was made byMr. Fiuneran,
seconded by Mr. Coffin that the tree should be removed and authorize the Tree'%~arden to
remove same. Mr. Thomson voted on the motion, making it a unanimous vote.
A hearing was held on the petition of John Jackson, 598 Salem Street, for the removsl
of four trees in front of his property~here he is building a new home. Mr. Conners
checked these %roes. and informed the board that they would have to be removed and tha%
this was more or less an emergency. Mr. Finneranmade a motion, seconded by.Mr.'Coffin
the the tree warden be authorized %o remove the ~rees in question. Mr. %~0mson vo~ed
on the mo~ion, mai=rig it a unanimous vote.
A hearing was held on the petition of E. L. Hooper 26 Andover Street for the removal
of a ~ree in fron~ of his property which is almost dead and is a hazard. Mr. Co~mors
agreed that the Lree should be removed. Mr. Finneran made a mo%ion, seconded by Mr.
Coffin and vo~ed favorably by Nr. Thomson that the tree warden be authorized ~o remove
this tree. Vote was unanimous.
.P~OLVER PEPJET APPLICATIONS:
An application for a license to carry ~ revolver was received from Horatio Rogers,
580 Osgood Street, listed as a Surgeon, and the board voted unanimously t~ gran~ the
permit.Chief McKee.'Mr' Coffin stated that he ne~ Mr. Rogers and the application was approved by
A similar application was received from Edward J. Schorman, 114 ~&~rblehead Street, employed
by an insurance company. ~he Boa~d voted unanimously to grant this license. This applica-
tion was also approved by Chief McKee.
A similar application was received from William Fraser Calder, 30 Annis Street, for target
· shooting and the board voted unanimously to gran~ this permit.
Alva J. Eldridge, 515 Mass. Ave. came before the board relative to his application for a
license to carry a revolver. He informed the board that he attends the Mass. T~ade School
in Boston and hopes to become a gunsmith. He plans to practice shooting at the Lawrence
Target Range. He s~id he had lived in North Andover all his life. The Board voted unanimously
to grant this license.
STREET LIGHT REQUESTS:
Mr. Arthur J. Vallierecams before the board %o request a street light at Bay State Road and
Chickering Road. He said it is very dark a~ t~is location -,ud a person is blinded by the
lights on the high~ay. The nearest light is ab~u~ 150, from Bay State Road. The board
voted unanimously ~o check this location before taking any action.
Mr. Thomson said he had received a reques~ for a street ligh~ on Adams Ave.'and the
Board will view this location also.
Mr. Finneran had requests for street lights a~ BUlger,s hospital, Chickering Road, and
on Chestnut Street. The board vo~ed to check these locations~ before ~aking any action.
LAWRENCE GAS& ~ECTRIC COMPANY:
The Board vo~ed unanimously ~o gran~ permission ~o the above company mo excavate ~o
install gas service for Luigi Gemellaro, !82 High Street, (25 feet in street).
Mr. Carty was notified of this excavation.
