DEPARTMENT OF P~BLIC WORKS:
A letter was received by the board indicated the tentative 1953 ChaptergO
allotments for the town and an attested copy of the town vote is to be sent
to the Above depar~mentwhen it is expected that work will be started soon
after the funds have been made available.
Great Pond Road, Route 133, F.A.$. State $7,500- Town $3,750, County $3,750.
INSURANCE:
A letter was received in answer, to our letter of November 8, 1951 and all
information was listed relative zo cost of adding property, damage to the cars
in the town fleet, the cost of increasing limits on town cars,.the one year
rate on extended coverage on the town fire schedule and the proper, amount of
limits on boiler insurance. The valuation of thebuildings was in 19h8 and
there has been a 12% increase in building costs since that time.
The question of an inventory was also considered. This letter is filed under
Insurance.
JANUARY 26, 1953:
~he regular weekly meeting of the Board.of Selectmen was held at 7:00 p.N.
with all members present. Weekly bills and payrollsware approved.
TREE REMOVAL HEARING:
A hearing, was held at 7:25 P.M. on the petition of Frank Beaumier, 59
Marblehead Street, for the removal of a ~ree in fron~ of his property. This
is a large split leaf maple, which interferes with the driveway and recently
a large limb was blown down and it. is ahazard. Mr. Combers, tree warden
agrees that the tree should be removed. A motion made by Mr. Finneranand
seconded by Mr. Coffin that the ~ree.warden be instructed to remove this
tree was made a unanimous vote and Mr. Conners so. notified.
SNON REMOVAL EMERGENCY- $1,629.57.
The Board of Selec%men approved an expenditure by ~he Highway Department
for snow removal expenses, for the amount of $1,629.57 on this date~ The'
emergency was declared on January 10, 1953 at 8:15 A.M. Mr. Carty will obtain
approval, of the Advisory Board members.
ADJUDICATION OF STREETS:
A hearing was held at 7:30 P.M. on the adjudication of Pembrook Road, f~om
LymanRoad to Mifflin Park Drive. .Tae Bsard has received notice from the
Highway.'Surveyor that under Article 54 of the 1952 annual ~own meeting, to
resurface this street, the project was completed on October 15, 1952 and the "
roadis in properconditinn for acceptance as a public way.
Mr. Finneran made a motion, seconded by Mr. Coffin that Pembrook Road from
LymanRoad to Mifflin Park Drive be adjudicated for acceptance by the town.
Vote was unanimous.
Similarly a hearing was.held on 'the adjudication of Sawyer Road, from'Middlesex
Street to Pembrook Road on which notice was received from the Highway Surveyor
that the project had been completed and ~he road was now in condition for
acceptance by the town.
Mr. Finneran made a motion, seconded by Mr. Coffin that Sawyer Road be adjudi-
cated for acceptance by the town. Motion was made a unanimous vo%e by Mr.
Thomson. The Advisory Board will be.no%lfied of this action.
CLAIM FORD~MAGE~:
Mr, Thomson received a no~ice that Joseph P. McGarry, 173 High Road, Newbury,
Mass. is filinga claimagainst thetown, through his attorney, Joseph Kalikow,
for damages resulting from injuries ~o his wife, Leebird A. McGarry and his
daughter Sandra Jo, also Mr. McGarry as well as for damage to his automobile.
This action taken as the result of an automobile accident on Route 133 at
Great Pond Road near Crockett Sanitorium, on January 17, 1953. Mr. McGarry
claims the injuries were caused by the failure of the town of North Andover
to exercise reasonable care~in maintaining the safe condition of its highway
by not sanding the dangerous icy road. Tae other car involved in the accident
was owned by William J. Hayes, Jr. of 24 Foster St. Lawrence.
On motion of Mr. Coffin, s econdedbyMr. Ftnneran, the matter was referred to
AttornsyElwyn King for his investigation and report. Vote was unanimous.
LAWRENCE GAS & ELECTriC CO:
~ petition for permission to excavate to install gas service for Kenneth
Bailey, 95 Marlbeh~ad Street,(31 feet in streem) was received by the board.
The board voted unanimously~o grant this petition.
