BOARD OF TRADE:
~he Board received a letter from the Board of Trade relative to a recent~meeting
for the purpose of discussing many important items for the .coming season. They-plan
to have a membership drive starting February 16 and asked that the .board Jog a,few
memories in their order of business at their next meeting.
the board agreed that they would do anything %o help any group which helps the community.
DEPARTN~NT OF PUBLIC UTIEITIES:
Notice received that a public hearing will be held at the State House-o~'M"rch 3, 1953
at lO:C0 o.clock in,the forenoon on the petition of~-the B & M~l~atIroad relative to
the increase in the fares of its co~mu, tation and multiple ride tickets for intrastate
passenger travel in Mass. approved on an interim basis in Department,s ~rder(D.P.U.9564)
on April 12, 1952, %o be permanently in effect.

APPOINTMENT OF PRECINCT
Mr. Finneran and Mr. Thomson voted to appoint Doris Rehn as Deputy 'Ballot Clerk.in
Preciact O~e as of this date. Mr. Coffin was not available to vote on this m~tter.
MARCH ~ 2, 1953:
The regular, weeklymseting of the Board of Selectnen.was held'~at ? :00 P.M. wtth"all
members present. ~eeklybills and payrolls were approved.
PRECINCT OFFICERS-SALARY:
· ~ John J. Lyons, 'town clerk, came before the board %o inquire about the amount of money'
paid to the Precinct Offic. ers this year. In December 1952, the buard.increased
$16-$15 and $14 due to the long hours for polling. Prior to that time, the
pay '~was $14-13 and 12.
~offin~made a motion, that the Precinct Officers. be paid on a basis of. $14~13 ~andl2
in the same ,manner as in 1952 at ~th~ 'annual town election.. Mr. Finneran~ secohded' this
motion and the vote was made unanimous.
~' · Mr. Lyons then thanked the members for their help and cooperation to him during 1952
and wished the' two members, who are retiring as selectmen, the best.of luck and invited
them to ¢~ on him at any time if he'could be of assistanc~ to them. He also,wished
MrJ ~homson the best of luck and felt that he would be again re-elected. . . ~:,.
. [' WITHDRAW/AL OF ARTICLE:
.The,Board received a letter from Allen D. Nelson, 56 ~ulmer Street, Lowell:,, informing '
them that he would li~e to withdraw,his article contained in the warrant for,:a.special
town meeting oh"March 14, 1953, following adjournment, of the regular town..meeting~'
The letter states that he..has informed the Planning Board and no further action .will be
taken by them in refergnce to his application. ~e board:~oted to send a letter~'to the
Advisory.Board informing them of this action so .that they. may make the nezessary' recommend-
ation at the annual town meeting.
TREE REMOVAL REQ'JEST:
Mr. Guy ~artin requested the removal of a tree in front of his home which is in his
driveway. Mr. Connors, tree warden, agrees that this~ree should be removed. The board
referred this petition to the tree warden for posting.. A hearing wilI be held on March 16,
1953 at 7:25p. M. . . ',,-
.BOARD OF ASS~ESSORS:
The Board of Assessors came before the board and discussed an article' which they in-
tended to have in the warrant of the annual town meeting. Mr. Lund said they had
prepared the'article and had discussed it with the Advisory Board ~t their meeting
with them. Mr. Thomson checked over the article which had ~een presented to them
for insertion in the warrant and there was no article from the assessors. Mrs. Soucy
stated that the article had been placed in an envelope with their budgets and it
should have been in, the warrant. Mrs. Dearden informed them %hat the' budgets do not
come to the .Selectmen and if the article was with the budgets, it must have gone to
the Accountant, who inturn, would send them along to the Advisory Board. Nr. Thomson
informed the Assessors that the Selectmen did not see the article and it certainly
would have been in the warran~ if it had been given to the Selectmen.
There was some discussion about article 65 in the warrant, petitioned by John Pillion,
and Mr. Thomson felt sure that proper action would be taken a% the annual ~own meeting.
Mr. Thomson instructed Mrs. Dearden to check with }liss Finn on this arUicle as %o
whether or not she had seen it when she received the budgets from the assessors.
Later, ~&ss Fln~ informed. Nrs. Dearden that she turns the budgets ~over ~o the Advisory
Board and would have no knowledge of any article which might have been included.
