Ne.ififormed the board that Henry Martin'was driving the truck, responding to a fire.
in Boxford and he lost control of the truck and was very fortunate in that he was.
badly shaken up but received no other injuries.,
Mr. Hargreaves said ~they could borrow a truck from ~awrence but it would be necessa~.y~
to have a special town meeting to raise the money ~for a new truck and he woulmd ·
like to have this meeting on March 14, 1953 after the annual town meeting. ~
Mr. Ftnneran was agreeable that we should call a special to~a~ meeting for this
purpose. Mr. Coffin agreed also providing that a committee is appointed to. do the
bu~ing~
Mr. Coffin then made a motion that a specisl town meeting be held.at-the conclusion
of the annual to~n meeting to be held on March lb,-1953 for the pdrpoSe of purchasing
a new ladder truck fully equipped to replace the ladder truck damaged ~n an accident
on March 2, 1953.
Mr. Coffin feels that there should be a committee which would include the three
fire engineers,i the board of Selectmen, the Supt~. of Public~,~orks and ~wo other
persons to be appointed by the Advisory Board.
Mr. Thomson said he had no objection to a committee but he does not' agree to naming
the committee .or who should be appointed. He did not feel that mhis was the burden
of the Selectmen but that the recommendation should be made by the Advisory Board.
He ques'tioned whether the article should be written up to include a committee but
felt that there should be a suggestion of a committee to make the purchase.
Mr. Finneran then ssid that he fe~t t~at the Selectmer~, the Board of Engineers
be on the committee and let the Advisory Board pick the other three members.
There was further discussion on the matter of the committee and Mr. ~st motion
was no~ seconded.
He then made another motion that a special town meeting be called immediately

of a ladder truck and equipment and lighting equipment with such purchase to be
made by a committee consisting of the Board of Selectmen, the Board of Fire Engineers
and three' other persons to be named by the Advisory Board or such other committee
as the to~n meeting ma~ determine. Mr. Coffin seconded thismotion and vote was
unanimous.
