DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC UTILITIES: Notice received that a public hearing will' be held on March 10, 1953 at the State House a~ 2:15 P.M. on the petition of the Lawrence Gas & RTectric Company relative to the par value of shares of the ca,pital stock of this company from $25.00 ko $10.00 per share and for confirmation Of the rights and franchises of this company to carry on its gas business in Eawrence, Methuen, Andover and North Andover and of the rights and franchises of this company to change its corporate name to Lawrence Electric Company to carry on its electric business in ~awrence, Methuen, Andover, North and Boxford. DEPARTMEN2 OF PUBLIC WORKS: Notice received that the Deper~men~ ~f Public Works of the change im date of hearing from February 25, 1953 to March 11, 1953 at 10:30 A.M. at the Public ';¥orks Building, 100 Nashua Street, Boston PLANNING BOARD: Copies of the decision of the Planning Board on five petitions for changes in the Zoning Law were received from the Planning Board and are filed under Planning Board: John R. Mahoney and ~A~ry Mo~s- Petition denied. Sarah Beck, denied as originally submitted. George H. Schruender, granted. Boston University- Granted: Domenic Mangano, Denied. FIRE ENGINEERS: Chief James Hargreaves cam~ before the board and discussed the~ accident in' which the ladder truck was involved and was practically demolished. He said the truck was completely ruined and the ladders and lighting equipment could not be salvalged~ Ne.ififormed the board that Henry Martin'was driving the truck, responding to a fire. in Boxford and he lost control of the truck and was very fortunate in that he was. badly shaken up but received no other injuries., Mr. Hargreaves said ~they could borrow a truck from ~awrence but it would be necessa~.y~ to have a special town meeting to raise the money ~for a new truck and he woulmd · like to have this meeting on March 14, 1953 after the annual town meeting. ~ Mr. Ftnneran was agreeable that we should call a special to~a~ meeting for this purpose. Mr. Coffin agreed also providing that a committee is appointed to. do the bu~ing~ Mr. Coffin then made a motion that a specisl town meeting be held.at-the conclusion of the annual to~n meeting to be held on March lb,-1953 for the pdrpoSe of purchasing a new ladder truck fully equipped to replace the ladder truck damaged ~n an accident on March 2, 1953. Mr. Coffin feels that there should be a committee which would include the three fire engineers,i the board of Selectmen, the Supt~. of Public~,~orks and ~wo other persons to be appointed by the Advisory Board. Mr. Thomson said he had no objection to a committee but he does not' agree to naming the committee .or who should be appointed. He did not feel that mhis was the burden of the Selectmen but that the recommendation should be made by the Advisory Board. He ques'tioned whether the article should be written up to include a committee but felt that there should be a suggestion of a committee to make the purchase. Mr. Finneran then ssid that he fe~t t~at the Selectmer~, the Board of Engineers be on the committee and let the Advisory Board pick the other three members. There was further discussion on the matter of the committee and Mr. ~st motion was no~ seconded. He then made another motion that a special town meeting be called immediately the adjourned annual tow~ meeting, containing one article dea'~Iing With the purchase of a ladder truck and equipment and lighting equipment with such purchase to be made by a committee consisting of the Board of Selectmen, the Board of Fire Engineers and three' other persons to be named by the Advisory Board or such other committee as the to~n meeting ma~ determine. Mr. Coffin seconded thismotion and vote was unanimous.
