CENTER SCHOOL:
The board discussed the matter of calling for bids for disposing of .the
Center School.
~r. Kirk mentioned that he felt that this matter should be discussed with
the Boa~.d of Public Works, since .they have charge of the playgrounds and
they may want ~o harm some special ~ctnd of work done there by the person
who disposes of the school.
Mr. Willis said we ~ere not in a position to call for bids until this matter
is taken up with Mr. Duffy and he agreed to talk with Mr. Duffy to-morrow.
No action will be taken until a later date.
ARTICLE 80-BOND TO TOWN* SUTTONS HILL CO:
A bond in the form of a bank account in the amoun~ of $1,O00 Accoun~ #109822
Broadway Savings Bank, was received from Attorney Roland Sherman. This is
the amount of a bond required by the Board of Selectmen as the cos% ~o put
~he road back in condition six months after the completion of the project
and the bond to be posted before June 1, 1953.
The account is in the name of the Sutton Hill Co. Inc and is payable ~o
the Treasurer or Assis~an~ treasurer.
Mr. Thomson felt that this was of no value ~o tho ~own as ~t was payable
only ~o the ~reasurer or assistant treasurer and he feels that the bank
book should be assigned to the ~own.
Mr. Willis brough~ up the fact that we will be faced with more of these
bonds in the future and it might be a good idea if the board prepared some
regulation form of bond. Mr. Thomson agreed that this was a good idea and
suggested ~hat the chsirman meet with him sometime in the near future and
prepare such'a bondl The board voted unanimously to do this.
When the f~rm is complete ~. Sherman will be contacted to make an assignment
to th~ town as required. ' · '
GEORGE BROADHEAD-PLAN OF ROBINSON COURT:
Mrs. Dearden reported to thc bosrd that she had checked with the assessors
office and .according to their records Mr. Broadhead .is not being taxed for
the small triangle he referred ~o last week. nor is he t~axed for any part of
the right of way shown on the plan. He ~has 13070 sq.ft, in one parcel and
2033 sq.ft, in the other making a total of 15,103 sq.ft, and his ~axes are
based on this area.
The~ board voted to send a letter to Mr. Broadhead explaining the matter to
him and suggesting that if he wants to give tho ti~iangle ~o the town he
should have a plan drawn and present it as an article at the next annual
town meeting.
DA~A GE ~AIM:
Mrs. Catherine Reardon,. 208 ~&ddlesex Street advised, the board that She had
been discharged by her doctor but not as completely recovered. She still cannot
raise her arm above her shoulder and ~r. Freedman said he can do no more for
her at this time. Her medical bills'as a result of this accident amount to
$94.90 and she' informed the board that if they would pay her ex~. enses plus
$500 she would sign a forum of release. Otherwise, she feels that she will have
to take the matter up with an attorney although she prefers no~ ~o sue the town.
Mrs. Reardon fell on March 2, in the Thcmson School on a piece of wood which was
on the stairs. .She feels that she will be~handi~apped for some time and seeks
some compensation.
The board discussed th~s claim and at Mr. Thomson suggestion they voted unanimously
to refer the ma~ter to Attorney Elwyn King for his investigation and report ~o
this board. Mr. Willis will contact Mr. King personally.
Later Mr. Willis dictated a letter to Mr. Kin~ explaining the case to him and
asking that he evaluate the cas e and make a recommendation to this board.
BOSTON & ~INE RAILROAD:
Notic'e received that after their annual inspection of Highway Grade crossings
the following signs are missing. These signs are mslntained by the town and
attention should be given at once to correct th~ conditions~ .
Sutton Street, one sign missing - North ~fn .Street, one sign missing -
Osgnod Street, one sign missing.
The Board voted to refer this matter to the P. olice Department.
~HAPTER 90:
Notice received that the Commissioners have allotted under the provisions
of Section 34, Chaptarg0, of the General Laws, the sum of $1,000 for the
maintenance of Chapter 90 roads in North AndoEer, on condition that at leas~
$2,000 shall be contributed by the town.
~he Board voted to file this notice and refer the ma~er mo Ira D. Catty for
his files.
