Mr. Duffy reported that he is making progress and has secured goggles for his men and he will-send a letter to the board at a later' date. . Mr. Carry s~ced that he does .no~ plan ~o equip the old trac~or with a-cab but that the new one is equipped ~ith a cab for the 9perator. ~he board voted to send this information to the .Lumbermens M~tual Company. 'Aug. 19~3. A ZONING BULLETIN: k letter introducing the zoning bulletin qas received from Eugene M. Quinlan, Publisher. No action taken. 8.6'0 SEPTEMBER h, 19%3.' continued PLUMBING RULES AND RF, GULATIONS: A copy of the "Bee" publication ,was .received and in which the plumbing rules and regulations had been advertised by the local Board of Health. U.N. DAY: October 24,19S3. A letter and a proc~,amation was received from the U. S. Committee relative to appointing a chairman and a local UN Day Committee. The board voted, unanimously to appoint tho .two commanders of the American Legion and the V.F.W. as co-chair- men of such a committee, namely: Edward Garvey, V.F.W. and Frank Olms, American Le~ion and they will be so notified. COMPLAINT: Helen Koroskys, Abbott Street, North Andover came to the office.and complained about the Civil Defense airplanes, etc. and wanted the board .%o write her, ar letter or she would have to go to the F.B.I. In view of the substance.of the complaint, the board voted to take this matter up with her father and see if she is ill or if some action should be taken. ~r. Kirk agreed to see her father and explain the contents of the letter, and see what he wants to do. SEPTEMBER 14, 1953 ' ~meetfng of the Board of Selectmen was held at 7:00 ~.M. with all members ,present. Weekly bill~ and payro.lls wer~ approved. COMMUNITY CENTER ~EQUEST: ~alter S~amp requested permission to use the Center School grounds on September 26, for the fair to be held by the Community Con,for. :~e board voted unanimousl~ to grant permission for the use of ,the grounds on this date. '~J~NT ~ONTROL ~sm~s Maker,'treasu~er, informed the Selectmen that he could not approv~ the · bills 'as submitted for two members of the Rent Control Bo~rd. In Addition to ': their actual expenses th.ey included their days :pay. Mr. Maker felt that this ,was a civic duty which they took upon themselves and that according to i~w, board 'me'mbex;s' .~ball set'ce without pay and Shall be .reimbu~.sed for actual .exp~ses 'in- ~rred. ' . .Mr; Willis felt that'this wan approved by the Rent Control Board and if the ~reasurer ,-~:felt that it was no~ a lefitate expenses, he has a~right ~o refuse~ to pay it. Mr. McCarthy stated that Mr. Dully informed him that this' is an'emergency and that.t.he Selectmen · '~' "could. u~6 thei$ extraordinary powers in such 'a cas~. . Thomson .felt that the Board of Health should be contacted if ',thms !~sa sanitary blem"and' then let it come back to the Selectmen. Mr;' Thomson felt the, same way about this matter. - £tto~ney'McCarthy thought the Selectmen had a x~ight to give perm~ss'i~n ~h this article and it; would Be for the betterment of the town and he thought ~they would 'be using good Sound' Judgment. Mr. Thomson discussed 'the possibility of gettihg a 2"main temporarily and then .have ,it taken care of at the next annual town meeting. He suggested that the Selectmen sit in with the Advisory Board, Mr. Duffy, Attorney McCarthy and Mr. 'Coppola and discus: this matter' thoroughly. A meeting w~s set for September 28,. 1953 at 7~45 P.M. RESERVE POLICE OFFICERS: Chief McKee informed the Board that there are three vacancies in the ~eserve Force and he would like %o have them request an eligible li.4t from Civil Service and have these vacancies filled. Th~ Board voted unanimously to request this list. JUitOR~ Arthur Kirk drew the name of John $1ipkows~y, 46 Camden Street, to serve as a Juror on October .5, 19,53 at Sale~ Superior Court for civil business.
