· ~r. Willis mentioned a b~ll for S75.00 for a steeple Jack and the chief~ said ~hat
was also for the installing of the new antenna and it required a steeple Jack.
He asked the chief if he had asked for a price from this company for the work to be
done and he said he had not.
Mr. Willis then made a suggestion to the chief that in the future, if there is any
work to be done which would run into any large amount, that the chief tet, it out
on contract and the chief agreed to do this.
Mr. Thomson then made the follo~o, ng motion:
That the selectmen vc~e~o sponsor an article in the 1954 annual town warrant asking
.for $250 for the purpose of paying a bill deemed to be due the Harvey Radio Corporation
for materials and services provided to the Police Department in 1948, this~board
being of the unanimous conclusion that non-payment of this bill in the year in
which the services and materials were provided was due to a confusion existing between
the Harvey Radio Corporation and the police department, due to a notation on the
HarveyRadio Corporation statement as "final bill".
~r. Kirk seconded this motion a~d the board voted unanimously. ~. Willis will
notify the lawyer for the Harvey Radio Corporation.
The regular weekly meeting,~,of the Board of. Selectmen was held at 7:30 P.M. with
all m.mbers...presen~. ~eekly bflle and, payrolls were approved.
IAWRENCE.ELECTR/CCOMPANY:
A hearing was held a~ 7:35 P.M. on the petition of this company for permission to
construct a line of underground electric donduits, .including the necessary',sustaining
and pro~ecting fixtures under and across the public ways from exisf, ing pole (1246)
.in triangle at intersection of Chestnut.Street and Hillside Road. southerly a distance
of approximately 33 feet, and westerly across ,Hillside Road ~,.distance of approximately
37 feet, 1 duct. ~here was no opposition and the board voted unanimonsly..to grant
this petition.
EASTERN MASs..RA~WAY COMPANY:
A hearing was held on the petibion of t~is company for a license to operate motor
vehicles for the carriage of passengers for hire in the~To~n of' North Andover,
over the following public ways:
On Sutton Street, between the Lawrence ~unicipal(James Condon) Airport and
~.Osgood Street;
On Osgcod. Street, between Sutton Street ar~ the ~orthAndover~ Haverh~il
boundary linej ,~ ..,
~he application had been properly, advertised and there was no opposition..
board'votsd unanimqusly to grant this license. Duplicate licenses will be made
out and mailed to the company. No fee is requi~ed.
SUTTON HILL COMPAI~/-ATTY. ROLAND SHERMAN~
Atty.~Roland. Sherman and Ira D. Carry mst with the board to discuss the 'requirements
to put a road .back in condition. Mr. Sherman said they would like to get their money
back (which had been posted as a bond with the Selectmen) and he would lime 'to have
the cooperation of the Selec=~en and the Highway Surveyor so that the Job will be done
right.
l~alph Brasseur was called into the meeting and he agreed to meet a rmpr~se~tative
of Mr. Sherman's at the location of Sutton Hill Co. streets and 'explain.Just Wflat
work is to be done and Mr. ~homson suggested that Mr. Brasseur confirm this in writing.
A form will'be mailed to Mr. Sherman relative to requesting the Select2an ,to adjudicate
the streets when they arein proper condition, preparatory to inserting an article in'
the town warrant. Mr. Carry will contact Mr. Brasseur when arrangements are made by
Mr. Sherman.
HEARING- PLEASANT STREET-ONE WAY S~EET:
A hearing was held at 8:00 P.M. on the matter of making P~eas~t Street a one
way street fr~. Elm .to Clarendon Street with no parking on the left sid~ of
Pleasant Street from Elm to ~larendon Street. ~lere was no opposition 'and no
residents of' Pleasant ~treet.weze present. Mr. Eirk made a motion that the
Selectmen accept the reco~mendation of Chief McKee .to make Pleasant Street a
one waif street fr~Elm to Clarendon with no parkin~ on ~he left side of Vl~a. an~.
e necessary $o put this vote into effect..Mr. ~lomson seconded this motion
and the vote was unanimous. Chief McKee ~ill be so notified.
