LA~R~N~E GAS ¢CMPAN¥:
Petition to excavate on Sutton Street and Chestnut Street were approved by the departments
involved and permission was granted by the Selectmen.
A letter explaining why excavations were completed before approval was given by town was
by N~ .Goebel, District Supsrintendent. The excavations were on Mass. ~ove. and ordsrs from the
Mass. Dept. of public Works gave him permission to excavate. He stated that he understood that
prior notification tc the pclics dspartment was all that was requirsd. The letter was accepted,
with the stipulation motioned by Selectman Fred P. Oakes, that thc Police Department bs notified
at all time. s prior an~ excavation..
PERSONNEL BOARD:
A letter re a ~pecial position within the police schedule entitled,
was rsceived by the Board and tabled for further study.

SCHOOL BU~.~NG CC~ITTEE:
· A letter received by tM Board from Chairman John B. Harrtmen stated his appreciation for the
attendance and interest shown their problem regarding an access road tc the new school. · Plans
to acquire land near Phillips Brooks road for this purpose will entail architect Frank" 'Crimp to
draw up plans to purchase the needed land from owner George Giragosian, 586 Massach6sstts Avenue
This deciSiOn w aa agreed upon at a meeting between Douglas Chandler, Supt. of. Schools,. the owner
and Chairman Finneran.
SPEED SURVEY:
Selectman' Broadhead made a motion that a speed surve~ be 'made on Mass.
pedestrian (children) traffic in September when the new shhool will be opened. Chairman
requested that ~nother request be sent to the state re conver~ting the lights, corner of Main St.
· ~ 'and Chick~ing Rd, to "Stop & Go" 'lights with the pedestrian controls already there. Selectman
Fred P. Cakes would like to request that "Stop & Go" lights be installed at the intersection of
Rt. 114 and Waverley Rd. A letter with these matters will be sent .to Frederick Chase,
Traffic Engineer, Danvers, Mass. together with a copy to Senator Rurak, and three

CO~PLAINT:
Mr; 'F~ed'Phelan, 48 Prospect Street, appeared before the Select, eh to request that Chadwick St.
b~ repaired. The numerous holes in the street caused children on ~icycles t6 turn ou~ quickl~r
to avoid them into the paths of cars. The Highway Dept. was instructed to repair same.

A motion by Selectmen Broadhead w~s seconded and~.v~te~.;fuLl approval by the Board to send Miss
Marion Batchelder, Head Librarian of Stevens Memorial Library,~'x~ho is retiring on June lst, a
letter of commendation and appreciation for her faithful, high' quality service rendered in her
many y~ars in the library. '

Police Chief Lawlor was instructed by the Board to investigate any possible commercial

GAS ~SPECTC~ FEES:
Selectman Fred P. Oakes requested a letter be sent to the Attorney General to see if approval
of the amendment concering gas inspector fees be expedited.
