The regular meeting of the Board of '~electmen vas held on this date ~ith all members present,I
Selectmen F~ed P. Oakes, Raymond Broadhead with Chairman Finneran presiding. --~
MEETING: RE: GAS CO. EXCAVATIC~S:
Frank Goebel and Walter Stamp, Highway Foreman, met with the Selectmen to resolve f~ture exca-
vations of the Gas Company on streets that have been recently resurfaced by the town. The
resulting conclusions were that Mr. Goehels of the Gas Company would contact the foreman of
the Highway Dept. before major excavation of any street so resurfaced to determine the best
possible way of excavating with the least damage to the street.
LAk~R~NCE GAS CO.:
A petition to excavate on Fernwood Street was approved by the B card of Selectmen.
C0MM~NDATION:
Chief Lawlor advised the B card of the meritorious action and quick-thinking of Mrs. Theresa
Morin, School Crossing Guard, when a fire broke out in a garage opposite her station in front
of the St. Michael's School on May 14th. The Board voted unanimously to send her a letter of
thanks and appreciation in behalf of the Beard and the Town.
APPLICATI0~ FOR PERMIT:
An application for a permit to erect a sign entitled, "Aqua Swimming Pools" atslO16 Osgood St.
was submitted by Norman Beautify, 136 Main Street, North Andover, and referred to the Building
Inspector for investigation and report.
GAS INSPECTIC~ MEMORANDUM:
A memorandum relative to the Gas Code was received and referred to the Gas InSPector, Mr. Mitch-
ell Bootman for study and recommendation.
DAMAGE CC~LAINT:
A complaint was received from Mrs. R. Sheehy, 183 Summer St., Andover, Mass. ef damage to her
car because of ditch in road. It was referred to the Highway Dept. for investigation and report.
MAYOR BRFiTA,SOMERVILLE, MASS.: '
A letter of appreciation of the town Fire Dept. was received by the Board from ..the Mayor of
Somerville, for the assistance rendered by our Fire department in the recent General Alarm Fire
in Somerville.
NOTI CE:
A notice of the fifth meeting of the Regional Vocational Technical High School District was
received by the ~card.
BOSTON & MAINE R.R.CROSSING :
A copy of a signed agreement was received by the Board relative to the new B. & M. R.R. Crossing
at Marblehead Street necessitated by the. new Route
SECRETARY OF STATE:
A revised list of all Selectmen in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts was received by the Board.
COMPLAINT:
Mr. James Hunt'r, Waverley Road, advised the B card of ina~vertant firing of ~ifles across river
from Law~ence side was endangering the lives of his childre~ and others on Waverley Rd.~ The
bullets were lodging in the sides of the houses and the back deer of his house where his child-
rem often played. The matter was referred to the Chief of Police, J. Lawlor, who would, in
turn, apprehend the Oity ef Lawrence of the situation and request that steps.be taken immedi-
ately to correct the sit~ation.
The meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
