STATE DEPT. OF PUBLIC WORKS:
The Selectmen again voiced their disapproval of inaction of the State to act on pertinent toques
from the Board and voted to send letters ~ MacWilliam~ and the various representatives for a
meeting among the above-named to have the State adopt a plan of action on the following:
1. Elimination of the dangerous break-dawn lane on Route 12% leading to Western Electric.
2. Repairing of state roads; Rt. 114, Turnpike St., Maes. Avenue and Andover Street.
3. Converting the present '~linkhug" traffic Lights, corner of ~hickering end Main Streets
to "Stop & Go" lights with continuation of the present pedestrian control button.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m. ~ ~/~ /~

The regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on this date with all members present,
Selectmen Fred Po Oakes, Raymond Broadhead and Chairman William A. Finneran presiding.
REARINGS: 7.~0 7.~5 7..6 p.m.
Massachusetts Electric Company was voted their petition for pole and wire locations on Middleton
Street, northerly side, 8 poles and southerly side, 8 poles.
New England Tel. & Tel. 2o.were voted permission for their petitions for a conduit lc~atiom on
Massachusetts Ave. and a pole and wire'location on .Harkaway Road, at Osgood Street.
REQUESTS:
Mrs; R.' 9laments requested that the metal street sign on the corner of Chickering Rd. and Osgood
Street be reinstalled. It seems that a snow plow knocked it down last winter and it was never
set up again. T~e Board approved the requzst.
e Board renested Chief ~f Police3 J. ~a~lor, to make a speed surveycn Clarendon Street from
easeant Street to Wat.e~; '~at. er. from ~leasant and Elm Streets. Complaints have come to the
Selectmen of speeding in the vicin.fty of Applin playground.
REQUEST FOR TREE P~NOVAL HEARINGS:
A request for removal of a tree from Mr. G.~ Morgan, 19 Milton Street and Mr. Hollis Curtis, 26 ~
Tolland Rd. was received by the Board and hearings set up for same f~ 7:30 p.m. on July 15,1963
HEARINGS SET UP:
Hearings for petitions of New E~gland Tel. & Tel. Co. and Mass. Electric Co. for buried cable
locations and pole and wire locations were set for July 15th, 7:30, 7:35 and 7:36 p.m.
TOWN YARD COMMITTEE:
A letter from Chairman, Edwin C. M~rphy, stated he woul~ be glad to meet with the Selectmen any
time after the 15th. A meeting was arranged for Monday, July 29th.

A letter received by the Board ~rom the above-named company requeste~ information concerning
120 acres .of land that might be av~ilable for a go2f course in North Andover. The letter was
referred' ~o the Assessor's office and Industrial ~ommisstom.
STATE DEPT. OF PUBLIc WORKS: CHApTER 90 - SALEM ST.
Notice was received of the contract awar~ to the lowest bidder on the reconstruction work to
ibegin on Salem St. Ray, and E. LaRochelle, inc. 7 Henderson Ave., P.O. Box 54, Andover, Mass.
was the~10westRuLE bidder with the amount of $67,84~.9o.

The Secretary of State sent the Selectman a-letter of appreciation regarding their support of
Home Rule Bill #1384. ~ ~ ~ ~
ARNOLD SALISBURY: GAS FEES
A letter concerning Gas Inspector fees and regulations was received f~m the Town Counsel and
the matter was tabled until the July 15th meeting at which time the rates w~uld be set.
SMALL PLANES:
Mr. John Ramsden appeared before the Board to discuss the problem of "flying"space for the radi¢
planes boy's club who were told they couldn't use the High School grounds any more. Possible
spaces were discussed and William Rock, Chairman of the School Committee, who was present said
he would b~r~tng~t before the committee next time they met.
