HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963-10-28 Board of Selectmen MinutesOctoBer 28, 1963. The regular meeting of the Board ef,'~Selectmen was held on this date with Selectmen Raymon~O Broadhead, Fre~ P. Oakes and Chairman William A. Ftnnaran who presided. HFARING: New England Tel. & Tel. Co. and Massachusetts Electric Co. were granted their petitions for Joint or identical pole location on Waverl7 Rd., 1 pole, and the relocation of a pole on Great Pond Rd. MASS. ELECTRIC CO.: The Board approved recmmm~endation of above-named company for improved street lighting on Eeadow Laxle. PUBLIC WORKS: An estimate of work done on contract No. 2088a, Chapter 90, Salem Street, wes received and given to the Highway Department. IHEARING: A hearing for a Joint pole location for the electric and telephone companies was set for 4:00 p.m, on Friday, November 8, 1963. BOARD ~F TRADE: The Board accepted an invitation from the North Audover Board of Trade to participate in the town's Santa Claus parade the Saturday after Thanksgiving. BLUE CROSS-BLUE SHIELD: A ~ettsr was received announcing an increase in insurance rates for all town employees. ~ NOTICE: A notice was received from the Essex County Retirement Board stating that Mrs. Flora McOubbim would retire on December 31, 1963, her 19th year of service. The Board voted to send a letter of commendation on the fine service rendered the t~wn daring her employment in the Assessor's of- fice. TG~N ACCOST: ~e Selectmen approved a form letter that the town accountant wishes to send out to all garages and service stations stating that all sales slips be signed by the department driver when work is completed. The system would improve "auditing and handling" of such bills submitted for pay- mont. Massachusetts ~lectric Company: Surveys were requested by the Board for improved street lighting for Wilson's Corner. CHIEF JOSEPH LAWLOR: A request from the Board to the Chief regarding the taking of a traffic count for future install- ation of "Stop" signs at the corner of Marblehead and Mass. Ave. and the corner of Johnson and Salem Streets. SELEC~'S MEETiNG: The next Selectmen's meeting will be held on a Friday, November 8, 1963, at 4:00 p.m. due to the regular meeting date falling on a national holiday, November llth. BREAKDOWN LANE, ROUTE 1~%: The Board voted to send out letters, once again, to District Highway Engineer, Harold -F. and to representatives for a meeting on November 8th to discuss the matter of the breakdown lanes on Route 12% near Western Electric Co. They present a definite traffic hazard due to the heav~.? traffic of Western and the Selectmen have repeatedly asked the state to remedy the situation with no cooperation shown whatsoever. A letter will also be sent to J.J. Shaughnessy and Councillor John J. Buckley to attend the mmeting. SPEE) CONTROL: The Board also voted to send a letter to Chief traffic engineer, Edward J. NcCarthy, to send a member of his personnell to'a meeting with Chief Zawlor and the Selectmen on November 8, 1963 at 1:00 p.m.. for the establishment of speed controls on certain town ways. .~.JUNIOR LEAGUE BASEBALL TFAM: ' · The town's Junior League Baseball team will receive a letter from the Selectmen congratulating ~them on the marvelous season thay had this year; they not only were at the head of the league ~ey also won the play-off pennant. A beautiful trophy commemorating the event is now in town clerk's office. ~ETERS AND ANDOVER STREETS: ' . Chief Lawlor was instructed by the Board to conduct a speed w~tch at the corner of peterS and Andover Streets during the time of 7:15 to 8:30 a.m. in order to determine a solution to the dangerous traffic condition existing there. Repeated requests of the state, to install "stop" lights have been ignored. The meeting adjourned, at 8:30 p.m. Alice M. Letarte, Secretary.
