HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963-11-18 Board of Selectmen MinutesThe regvla~ meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on this date with Selectmen Raymond 'Broadhead, Fred P. Oakes and Chairman William A. Finneran who presided. HEARING: New England Tel. & Tel. Co. & Mass. Electric Company petitioned for Joint or identical pole ~ocatlon on Foster Street was ~.~r~oved by_the ~Boar~d. A ~heartng was set for another Joint pole ocamxon on Waverley Road for y:~u p.m., ~ecemoer ~, 1963. ALL NIGHT PARKING BAN: The Board voted to have the ~11 night parking ban go into effect on December 1, 1963 and be advertised on November 29th and 30th. LAWRENCE GAS CC~PANY: Petition to excavate on Elmcrest Rd. for gas service was approved. ~.w~CT~IC CO.: Recmm~endations received for improved street lighting on 58 Colgate Street and 28 Middlesex St. were approved. Selectman Broadhead requested that at the town Library on the Green Street side, a survey be made for better lighting. MRS. FLORA MCCHBBIN, ASSESSOR'S ASSISTANT: A letter of high commendation of Mrs. Mccobbin who is retiring in December, was received and voted to be put in the town records. The letter was sent by Attorney Lanigan. T~ COUNSEL: Alettar from Arty. Salisbury re an anti-trust suit affecting several towns was received and the terms as stated were approved by the Board. TRAFFIC COUNT: A traffic count was submitted by Chief Lawlor on the intersections at Johnson & Sa2em Streets and Massachusetts Avenue and Marblehead Street. This count was for future "Stop" signs to be installed at said intersections. Engineer Cyr will be requested to draw up necessary survey on required T-57 forms which will be submitted to the State Department of Public Works for approval. PUBLIC pEAlER: A notice was received from Rutland,Vermont from the "Citizens ~r Public Prayer" asking the Board to go on record as favoring an amendment to the United States Constitution to permit in the class rooms of our schools. The notice was tabled for further consideration. Great. Lawrence VOCATIONAL REGIONAL NIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT: A notiee was received of the 29th and 30th meetings of the above-named c~ittee and a pro- posed budge~ was received by same from Secretary, Mr. Vance Peterson. NOTICE FRG~ STATE DEPT. C~ PUBLIC P~ALTH: Notice of meeting on sewerage treatment was received by the Board. TG~N INSURANCE: The Board voted to have the Prudential Group Insurance policy renewed for .the year, 1964, and Treasurer, James Maker, will be so notified. N.A. BOARD C~ T~ADE PARADE: The Board granted a permit for the Santa Claus Parade to be held on November SO, 1963. SIDEWAIZB: The Selectmen received a request from the residents of the Waverley Rd.-Margate Rd. area that sidewalks be installed for the safety of the many children attending Thomson School. The high- ' way department will be asked to determine the cost of said project and to prepare an article for Town Meeting for same. JOHN LYONS, TG'~ ~L~RRANT: The Selectmen took under adgisement the proposal 65 Town Clerk, Lyons, to have the To~n. Warrant __opened and closed earliea this yeer to enable the Advisory Board to have more time in which to ~s%udy the Articles submitted, and his office would have more time to prepare the Articles for "~he printer. . DEPT. C~ PUBLIC WORKS: Received was a notice that the C~,=,.~ssioners at their meeting on October 29, 1963 voted to revise the Chapter 90 assignment of funds made on April 30, 1963, for Salem Street (State $20,000.00, Town $10,000.00, County $10,000.00) to read as follows: Salem Street (for advertised project) State-S8,500; To~m-~,2505 Count~-$4,250 Salem Street (for future project) State-Il,500; Town-~5,750 ; Count2~ ~,7%O The meeting was adjourned at 9:05 'p.m. ~lice M.
