The r@g~2ar meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on this date with Selectmen Fred P.~.
Oakes and Chairman William A. Finneran present. Selectman Raymond Broadhead was out of
on business matters, therefore, unable to attend. !
MAYOR BUCKLEY RE TRANSPORTATION CRISIS:
A letter was received by the Board from Mayor Buckley of Lawrence advietng them on an important
meeting on the transportation crisis to be held on Thursday, February 6, 8:00 p.m. in the Law-
~en~cegcity Council Chambers.
STATE ~EPT. OF PUBLIC WORKS:
The Board wns advised of the tentative 1964 Chapter 90 allotments, project, Salem Street, main-
tenance as follows: Salem Street, State $20,000, Town, $10,000, County $10,000. Maintenance
~State, $1,000, Town, $2,000.
ESSEX SANTOR~UM:
Notice was received on meeting re placing santorium under the supervision and control of the
Department of Mental Health or the Department of Public Health.
REGIONAL S~OOL:
Notice of the 36th meeting of the regional school committee.
· BOSTON REGIONAL PLANNING PROJECT:
Notice of January 30th meeting which was referred to the Planning Board and Board of Publi~
TOWN REPORT BIDS:
~: On Friday, Janusry 24, 1964,. Selectmen Finnaran and Cakes opened all bids for printing of the
anmml Town Reportm The Board took them under advisement and investigation cf the lowest bidder
~h~cwas Northeast Offset, Inc. of Lowell, Mass. with a bid of $7.75 per page. At th~s meeting on
january 27th, having been advised by Town Clerk that the company had been investigated and was in
order, the Selectmen voted to a~ard the bid to the above- named company, contract to be filled
according to specifications submitted and advertised, delivery to be made as agreed upon.
CIVIL DEFENSE: CONMDNICATIONS:
A letter from Civil Defense Director, Roland C. Korb, advised the Board of a projected plan for
establishing a co~mmnication system that will comply with Sector requirements. 'The plan sub-
mitted is as follows: · '
1. Reactivate the control center in the basement of the fire house. '
2. Appoint a Radio Officer (N.A. resident) ~no is authorized to operate the e~uipment.
3. Znstall equipment which will make our -~em a part cf the Civil Defense Sector ~ Network.
all that was reclutred.

The regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on this date with Selectmen Bro~dhead,
Cakes and Chairman Ftnneran who presided:
JURORS:
Henry Enaire, 178:Water Street, machinist, was drawn for Superior Criminal Oourt at Salem in
February, 1964.
Yvonne Lewis, 46 Pleasant Street, at home, was drawn for Superior Civil Court at Lawrence in
March, 1964.
HFARING: DURSO FT~.T.ING STATION:
The application to store gasoline underground for a proposed service station in the Shopping Pla-
za area at 117 Main Street was denied principally for the reason that it would create s definite
traffic and safety hazard to children end adults. It was also ~stated that a service station was
not in keeping with the Nain Street image that townspeople want for the town of North Ar..~-o~er.
LAWRENCE GAS CO.:
Petition received to excavate on Lexington Street for repairs was approved by the Board.
MAss. ELECTriC CO.: "
Petition for a pole and wire location to provide lighting for the entrance to Stevens Memorial
Library on the Greene Street side was approved.
