APPOINTMENTS: Liason Members of Regional Planning District Commission;
Mr. William A. Bushnell, Carty Circle, and John J. Nonterio, Jr., 1110 Salem Street were~-~
appointed to serve as a liason committee to the Selectmen. A third member will be appointed
Monday, May 18, %964.
PARKING BAN: 2-Hour on Main St.
Acting upon report from Chief Lawlor, Selectman Oaken made a motion that a 2-hour parking
ban be ordered that cars, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Main Street; from the
JUnction of Waverley Road and Main Street, running easterly to Water and Main Streets
the north and south sides of the street, cannot be parked on Main Street; ban to be effect-
ive day after advertised in the Eagle-Tribune. The vote taken was unanimous.
· RIDG~4OODCEMETERY:
A letter from Samuel Rockwell advised the Board that Chapter 90 work on Salem Street
had left thelower entrance to the cemetery in poor condition. He asked the Board to .
con:act the State or Highway Dept. to correct the conditions before the Memorial Day
observances and parade which would bring numerous people through this entrance. The Board
agreed to contacm the proper officials.
LAWP~NCE DUMP:
Elaine Brasseur complained to the Selectmen that debris from the Lawrence Dump was contin-
ually falling over her clean wash when hung outside. Alderman ~uillmette's office was
notified.
BOARD OF HEALTH:
A letter from the local Board of Health advised the Board that six residents of Adams Street
who had not tied in with the main trunk sewerage line had been ordered to do So. One of the
six had completed arrangements for the installation, but, to date, the other five have yet
to be heard from.
LORING STREET FENCE:
A copy of a letter sent to the Union Oil Co. of Boston by Building Inspector,.Charles Foster,
was received by.the Board. It stated.that the oil company was requested to reinstall a
fence which was remcveduwhen a service station was constructed which left a dangerous~ ped-
estrian situation on the Loring Street, Lawrence, Massachusetts Avenue brid ge.
STREET LIGHT:NOLTROAD.
Mass. Electric Co. will be requested to make a survey for street lighting on Holt Road
vicinity of the Richlyn Club.
STOP SIGN:
Plans w~re received by the Selectmen from Joseph Cyr for the proposed stop sign to be in-
stalled at Massachusetts Avenue and Marblehead Street pending State approval.
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS MEETING: SALEM STREET.
Notice was received of a lay-out meeting to be held on May 26, at 11:00 A.M. in Salem Cour~-
House on the matter of the Chapter 90 Salem Street reconstruction from~ohnson Street to
Boxford Street.
WELCOME TO ELECTRIC COMPANY:
Upon suggestion of Chairman Finneran, the Board of Selectmen officially welcomed to the town
the'Mass. Electric Co., on that company's announcement Of'plans to construct a ccmplmx of
buildings on Turnpike Street. The Board said the townspeople would welcome the new build-
ings as an edvantageous addition to the town's ~ax base. Sele6tman Broadhead suggested that
the Selectmen again request that the poor conditions of Turnpike Street (Route 11~) be
brought to the attention of the State and remind them of their past promise to repair same.
Letters were voted ~o be sent to the State, Representatives Petteruto, Williams, Lougworth,
and Senator Rurak requesting that they assist the Selectmen in expediting this matter.
BANNAN: GLENCREST DRIVE:
Mr. Bannan, Planning Board, appeared before the Hoard on the Glencrest Drive complaint that
water from Glenncrest Drive was sluicing over driveway of one Burry Rbys, 826 Dale
Bannan stated that he would contact the contractor to amend conditons which apparently
were caused by a 12' pipe draining wamer into a 6" pipe.
ELMCREST ROAD DUST COMPLAINT:
A letter from the Highway Dept. stated that Elmcrest Road was not an accepted street, how-
ever, the Highway Dept had put gravel on the road, as a convenience to the public, to fill
in the large holes that were left by the developer. The Selectmen had contacted Mr. Bannan
to contact said developer to have this.road put in condition.
3-Member Liason Planning Board Committee:
Two members were appointed to serve as liason members to the Regional Planning Board and
the Board of Selectmen. They are: William A. Bushnell, 41 Carty Circle; John J. Monterio,
Jr., 1110 Salem Street. The third member will be appointed on May 1~ ~.
