HomeMy WebLinkAbout1964-05-18 Board of Selectmen MinutesThe regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on this date with Selectmen Pred P.Oakes, Raymond Broadhead and Chairma~ Finneran present. HEARING: GASOLINE STOP~AGE: The Board approved petition of Richard L. Heider, representing the Cyr Oil Co. permission to store underground 20,000 additional gallons of gasoline at a service sta- tion on 717 Turnpike Street. The spplication had no oppositiOn,!and was approved by the fire chief. HEARING: JOINT POLES: Petition of N.E. Tel. & Tel. Co. and Mass. Electic Co. for a Joint pole location on Sullivan Street, 2~poles, was approved by the Board. MASS. ELECTRIC CO.: Petitions for Joint pole locations, hearings unneccessary, on Andovar Street and Essex Road were approved by the Board. A hearing w~s sent for 7:30 p.m., June 1st on an identical pole location on Essex Street. LAWRENCE GAS COMPANY: A petition to excavate on 69 Beverly Street was approved by the Board. INVITATIONS: An invitation to participate in the Memorial Day Parade and Program was received by the Selectmen. Ail will participate. An invitation from Governor Peabody to attend Mass. Safety Conference was received. An invitation to attend terminal opening reception of Adley Express Co. on Saturday, May '23~d was received; also, from the Law. Industrial Commision to attend a "Dutch Treat" breakfast on Tuesday, May 19th, to hear a Presentation and Discussion of the Comminity Development(502) Loan Program. Members of the Board will make every effo=t to attend these functions. DEPT. OF PUBLIC WORKS: Estimate of work done on Contract re Salem Street, Chapter 90 was received. FLAG DAY: Aletter from the North Andover Board of Trade '~ighly endorsed the Board's action to promote a Flag Day Project on Sunday, June 14, 1964." Eac/~ of the Tra6~Board members will be asked to take an a~tive part in this program by the proper display of OUr American Flag. VOCATIONAL SCHOOL COMMITTEE: Report was received of the 51st meeting. APPOINTMENT: Mr. Stanley Olpp, 103 Pembroke Road, was appointed as the third member of the liason planning Board committee. (Regional) The meeting adjourned at 8:25 p.m. Alice M. Letarte, Secretary. Korb, Civil Defense Director, was received by the Board, with regret-: Reason given was pressure of new duties in new position. APPOINTMENT: Mr. John H. Farrell, Town Reporter, was appointed Civil Defense Director, effective June 1, 1964. LAWRENCE GAS CO.: A petition to excavate on Mass. Ave. (116) to renew gas main was approved. MASS. ELECTRIC CO.: Notice of installation of street lights on Appleton Streem and Sutton Hill Rd. was re- ceived. HTSTOP~C STUDY COMMITTEE: A letter from Arnold H. Salisbury, Town Counsel, revealed a request from the Historical COmmittee to have a three-member study committee appointed, mwo of ~hich would be nom- inees from the local society. The Selectmen approved and vote~ to notify Town Counsel to "set the wheels in motion".
