HomeMy WebLinkAbout1964-06-01 Board of Selectmen MinutesJune l, 1964. 283 The regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on this date with Selectman Fred P. Oakes, Raymond Broedhead and Chairman Finneran present. HEARING: Petition of the N.E.T. &Tel. Co. and Mass. Electric Co. for identical pole location on the southerly side of Essex Street, 812 feet easterly from Great Pond Road, 1 pole, was approved by the Board. Joint pole relocations, hearings unnecessary, on Dale Street and Marblehead Street were also approved. MEETING: TRAFFIC ISLAND, APPLETON STREET. A meeting with Mr. Lespasio of Chapter 90 was held on traffic island hazard to be cor- rected in the SalamStreet reconstruction, Chapter 90 program. After the meeting, the Selectmen viewed the site of the traffic hazard with Chief Lawlor and the state men. Two traffic islands will be installed. GASOLINE STATION: DURSO (LEONE) An application on constuct a gasoline station in the Stop & Shop Parking area was set up for a hearing on June 22, 1964 at 7:30 p.m. GO-SLOW CHILDREN SIGN: A request was received for the above-named sign to be installed on Johnson Street, near Mill Street. (An order was telephoned to the Walpole Prison Industries for a dozen signs and were promptly delivered on June 5, 1964 ~ANL) INVITATION: An invitation was received to attend an "Open House" reception in honor of authors, Miss Katharine Knowles and Walter Muir Wbitehill at the Stevens Memorial Library, June 7, 1964. RESURFACING TURNPIKE STREET: A letter from the DPW stated that the approval for this program would be known sometime during the month of July, 1964. PROPOSED MASS. AVE. SID~ALK: The Board was advised by the DPW that this project has been submitted to the Boston Office for approval. TRANSIT BILL: A letter re the transit bill was received asking the Board to send their views on same. N~SCHOOL, FRANK CRIMP: A letter received from Frank Crimp, architect for new school advised the Board that he had procured the necessary permit for grading work from the DPW. LAWRENCE GAS CO.: Three petitions to excavate on Osgood St., Colgate Drive, Main St., corner Water Street, and Stevens Street, corner of Pleasant Street; 292 Mass. Ave. were received and approved MASS. ELECTRIC CO.: Received and approved was a survey for street lighting on 80 Sutton Hill Rd., ~ottce of installation of street lights on Campbell Rd. and Mass. Ave., and a progress report on Main Street light changes. MASS. ELECTRIC CO. & N.E.T.& TEL. CO.: Petitions for Joint locations on Marblehead St and Dale Street were approved. RETIREMENT: Notice was received from the Essex County Retirement System that 'Hector A. Lefebvre, fireman, would be eligible for retirement on August 8, 1964 a= the age of 65. REGIONAL DISTRICT CONM: Notice was received of the 53rd meeting. PLAYGROUND INSTITUTE: Notice of leaders seminal at University of Mass. referred to William McEvoy, Rec. Ch. MASs. SELECTM~N'S ASSOCIATION: Warrant for annual meeting, questionaire and notice on Mass Transportation was received by the Board. STREET LIGHT, GREAT OAK STREET: The Board voted to have a street light installed on Great Oak Street pole 4800 per request of Nicholas Antonelli. SHEEP KILLING:
