HomeMy WebLinkAbout1964-07-17 Board of Selectmen MinutesThe regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on this date with Selectmen Fred P. Oakes, Raymond Broadheed and Ghairman WiLliam A. Finneran present. HEARINGS: POLE LOCATIONS: Petitions of the New E~land Tel. & Tel. Co. and Mass. Electric Co. for Joint pole loca- tions were approved for the following Streets: Turnpike St. st Boston and Chestnut Ste. Lacey Street, n.e. of Forest St., and Salem St. s.e. of Bexford St. MEETING ON EXCAVATIONS: Mr. Goebel of the Law. Gas Co.,Ira Carty and Walter Stamp of the Highway Dept. met with the Board to discuss the proper procedure to adopt as much as possible on the matter of gas excavations on streets before they are hot-topped and the matter of leaving the said street in the same condition before excavation. It was decided the best way was to the Highway Dept. contact the owners of houses under construction to determine wheh planned to have sewer and gas connections. The Highway cam plan on the proper time repair and hot-top said streets. MASS. E~ECTRIC CO.: Notice was received of installation of street lights on Great Oak Rd. and 176 ~estnut St. DEPT. OF PUBLIC WORKS: Request received for a Memorandum of Agreement for work on Main Street to be signed by the Board and returned. Also a letter re the isolated Stop sign on Marblehead St. _a~ Mass. Ave. requesting two.signed, dated and attested copies of necessary amendment. These copies wore sent to F. Chase, District Traffic Engineor, Danvers, Mass. on M~y 21, 1964. JURY LTST: The Jury llst compiled for the poriod between July, 1964 and July, 1965 was approved by the Boaz~l./ , BOARD ~ HEALTH: ADAMS AVENUE SF~ CONNECTIONS: A lettor from the Board of Health advised the Selectmen tha~ all Adams Ave. residents had started proceedings to connect into the main sewer line as directed by that Board. ~ERGENCY GAS LEAK NOTICE: Notice was received of gas emercency repairs on 219 Sutton Street amd the corner of Patriot and Belmont Streets. Police and Highway departments were also notified. OR: ~Because of late receipt of summons, and emergency drawing of a Juror was held on July 9; 1964 to serve in court on July 13, 1964. MarJorie Galahor, 55 Milk Street was drawn by Selectman ~¥ed P. Oakes which was witnessed by Town Clork, John J. Lyons, Chairman ~illiem A. Finnoran, Chief of Police and Selectmen's Secretary, Alice M. Letarte. The Selectmen wore cordis!ly invited to attend a portion of Route 495 opening ceremonies on Friday, July 24th. BUILDING INSPECTOR: TRAILER A lettor from Charles Fostor, Building Inspector, advised the Board that a previous request from Hubort L. Smith to park his trailer off Boston Street should be denied because under the present Zoning B~Laws you are not allowed to have a residence in a trailer. The re- quest was defend and a copy of Mr. Foster's letter sent to Mr. Smith. AD~RTISING sIGN: A request to orect au outdoor advertising sign was referred to the Building Inspector. PLANNING EEGULATIONS: A lettor requesting planning regulations was referred to the planning Board. REPRES~2ATIVE PETTERUTO: ' A letter of commendation for the 4th of July Committee and their excellent program was' received by this Board from Representative Albert F. Petto~uto. STEAM BOILER INSPECTION: A report and certificates of steam boiler inspections on all Town buildings were received and disbursed to them. SERGFANT-~SPECTOR DO, NELLY: Mr. Donnelly was highly commended by the Board for his fine detective work which resulted in the arrest of a bad-check passer long sought by the Police. A lettor of appreciation was voted to be sent to Sergeant Donnelly from the Board. UNCOVERED W-ELL: Selectman Broadhead requested the present Wal~er Stamp and Irn carry of the Highway Dept. to fill ~n an old abandoned well on Salem Street near the vicinity of the old Kimball School..He stated that i.t was a hazard to any children that might pass by. (The well was filled in on MOnday, July 20th.
