GC~DEMMED BLEACHERS: '
A letter advising the Board of the dangerous condition of a set of bleachers at Grogun'e
Field was received from Mr. Duffy, who requested that the Fire Chief be given the
Ity to burn same. The Board voted unanimously to have this done. A letter was giVen
to the F ire Chief the folio,ring morning at 9:00 a.m. authorizing him to burn the bles¢
ers.
STOP SIGN:
A letter from the State DPW stated that in regard to the isolated Stop sign of Marble-
ridge Rd. at Massachusetts Avenue, it was on State property and that they would install
and maintain the sign. The Board commended the DPW for the speedy manner in which they
e~pedited this particular request.
FIRE TRUCK DAMAGES:
A check for $4,750. was received by the Board for damages to the Fire Truck in February,
!, 1963 which was totally wrecked and one fireman, Donald B. Foss, lost his life and
two other fireman, Gordon Rokes and Thomas Casale were injured;and another, Stuart Summ-
ers, gravely injured requiring hospital treatment, many operations that caused him to
be absent from work for a year and some months. A new truck had to be purchased costing
· $44,86C.00 with an allowance for the wrecked truck. Town Counsel stated that this
was all that could be received as the owner of the car involved, Frank Esile, 719
St. N.A. only had $5,000.00 insurance.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.

The regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on this date~ith Selectmen
Fred P. Oakes, Raymond Broadhead and Chairman William A. Finneran present.
FOURTH OF JULY REPORT:
A report was submitted by Chairman Arthur Drummond of the 4th of'July Celebration
Committee and was approved by the Board.
RICHWAY DEPT.:
Advice was asked by the Highway Dept. on how to dispose of a 1955 Ford chassis. The
Board said to notify wholesale truckers~asking for bids and to award the chassis to
the highest bidder.
PRECINCT OFFICERS LIST APPOINT~NTS~
The list for 1964 was completed and submitted by the Board of Selectmen's Secretary
for official appointment. The list was approved by the Board and sent ~o the Wardens
of four precincts and the chairman'of the Republican and Democratic~parties.
STREET LIGHT P~QU~'~-TS:
The Board approved street
and on pole situated near
light requests to be installed on pole 4616, Wentworth Ave.,
the residence of Joseph Parisi, 597 Foster St.
STREET LIGHT SURVEY:
Mass. Elec. Co. was asked by the Board to conduct a survey for street lighting on
Pleasant St., vicinity of Stevens Pond parking lot and Stevens Mill parking lot.
A survey wil! be conducted also on Forest St., near Edward Miller, Sr~s house.
POLE R~OVAL:
A notice of a pole removal on Suffolk Strett due to highway construction was received
by the Board from Mass. Elec. Co.
LAWP~NCE GAS CO.:
Petitions were approved by the Board to excavate on Russell St., corner Chickering Rd.,
Beverley Street, corner of Union St. and Elmcrest Rd. Also permission was granted to
install one gas service on Elmcrest Rd.
POLE (JOINT) LOCATION: School Street.
A petition for a Joint pole location on School Street was received and a hearing set up
for Monday, August 31, 1964, at 7:30 p.m.
GRFATER LAWREnCE SIGN:
Due to thepersistent efforts of Fred Oakes, Selectman, the Greater Lawrence Sign in
North Andover on Sutton Street was re-worded correctly. This was the end result of
many letters, telephone calls.and months of contact and checking. Thank you, Fred Oakes
